Joey Onk--Greenmen turned RedHawk

Senior Joey Onk will attend Miami University this fall, majoring in finance. Before heading to Oxford, Joey reflects on his time here at Aurora.

Of all the memories Joey made here, his favorite was “winning the Powder Puff game junior year.” The Class of 2024 is quite the iconic one, looking to find another win this coming spring, again coached by Joey.

In regards to coaching, Joey’s most influential person throughout his high school career is Mr. Torres, baseball coach, and current co-vice principal.

“He was always someone I could trust. He is one of the most caring people I know and wants the best for everyone around him,” Joey describes.

In hopes of setting others up for success, Joey advises underclassmen to “find a subject you enjoy and something you might want to do in the future. Take classes based on that interest.” Joey has seemingly taken this advice for himself.

“I’ve always liked math and numbers, so finance felt like a good fit for me,” Joey says, touching back on the math courses he’s taken throughout high school, all of which will set him up for success in his coming years. This pursuant degree in finance will hopefully allow Joey to work as a “financial advisor,” something he hopes to be in 10 years.

All in all, Joey has cherished his time in Aurora. He notes, “I'm so grateful for all that Aurora High School has done for me. I don't know where I would be if I didn't go to this school. It has brought me lifelong relationships and memories.”

Something he would like to leave Aurora with, and surely something he will take with him in the future, is to “never take any day for granted. Time goes by faster than you think.”

There is no doubt that Joey has a bright future ahead of him. Good luck to you, Joey!
