Billie Eilish released her third studio album with 10 tracks “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” on May 17, 2024. It has been three years since her last album “Happier Than Ever” which came out in July of 2021. Eilish became popular after releasing the singles “ocean eyes” on her album “don't smile at me” in 2017, and “lovely(with Khalid)” in 2018. Her career really took off after releasing “WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?” in 2019 with the hit single “bad guy.”

Eilish has completely skyrocketed with her new album, she is currently #1 on the billboard right now with 106,291,079 monthly listeners on Spotify. Compared to her other albums, you can really tell how much effort and work she put into it; it has a whole new look compared to “Happier Than Ever.”

When she was only 13, Eilish released “ocean eyes” on SoundCloud, which started her career. Eilish’s brother, Finneas O’Connell, was the one who wrote that song; he originally wrote it for his band but it ended up working more for his little sister than it did for them. O’Connell co-writes and produces the majority of her music with her.

“HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” is made up of 10 tracks. The first track on the album “SKINNY” revolves around the themes of body shaming and heartbreak. This is one of the most emotional songs on her album. Eilish knew that this song would connect to many of her fans in many ways.

Track 4 on the album is “BIRDS OF A FEATHER.” This is one of the more upbeat and fun tracks on the album. This song was one of the first on the album to become popular, especially across social media platforms. Many people listen to this song and relate it to a best friend or someone they love a lot and never want to be apart from.

Track 6 on the album has to be my favorite to listen to when I am sad, “THE GREATEST.” This song is very slow until the bridge; at the bridge, Eilish’s voice is filled with so much energy and passion. Eilish wrote this song about how hard she tries to please and satisfy people and how she gets a lack of appreciation.
Track 7 “L'AMOUR DE MA VIE”-- This is a very different song. The majority of the song is very slow and consistent until the last minute. Then the song stops and an upbeat long outro of the song begins. This part of the song is very fun and different.

Track 10 “BLUE,” the song about sadness and heartbreak, was actually in the works for Eilish for a while. It was a blend of her unreleased songs “True Blue” and “Born Blue” which were leaked a while ago. The melody of this song is found in some of her other songs on the album, “SKINNY,” “THE GREATEST,” and “BITTERSUITE” which leads into the beginning of this song. This song even with a lot of slower parts is mostly upbeat and loud when you listen to it.
Overall, this was one of the top albums of the summer and her best album yet. There is not one song on this album that I would not recommend to someone else. Although it is a shorter album, every song is worth listening to.
