Mr. Mack is a math teacher at AHS. He’s been teaching for 14 years and teaches both freshmen (IM1) and juniors (IM3).
Mack explains that he wanted to become a teacher because it runs in his blood: “My dad was a teacher and always stressed the importance of education…it’s in my blood.” He included that his family (along with friends) has had the biggest impact on him. He also shares that his favorite part of teaching is the students: “Students are eager to learn and are willing to put in the work to improve.”
As for academic background, Mack went to high school just 45 minutes away from Aurora: “I went to Medina High School…” Mack shares that his high school was big, and got him to venture out and meet new people: “I went to a big high school [with 2200 students] and took various classes that broadened my interests and allowed me to interact with people I otherwise would not have.” He also adds that his favorite high school class was lunch, along with home economics: “[My favorite subject in school was]Lunch and all the home economics classes.” He took every single Home Economics course that his school had to offer! After high school, he attended Ohio University, down in Athens, Ohio.
Mack’s favorite thing to teach is math, specifically Algebra One: “I like teaching freshmen year Algebra One because it is such an important course that sets students up with a solid background to access higher level math.” He adds that he loves to get to know students and watch them be successful: “[My favorite memory at AHS is]Getting to know my students and seeing them achieve success.” Mack feels as though his best teaching quality is his patience, and as a math teacher, that comes in handy!
Mack also shares one thing students might not know about him: “[One thing students might not know about me is that]I am pretty funny.” He also enjoys traveling and playing bogey golf.
One last thing that Mack wants to let everyone at AHS know is that he did not get hurt during the Students vs. Staff basketball game.
