Ava Onk is a sophomore at Aurora High School and a member of the cheerleading team for Friday night lights. Onk shared, “I have been involved in cheerleading for a very long time. My mom signed me up for kindergarten, and I have been doing it ever since. I am glad my mom put me into it and gave me the opportunity to do cheer.”
Onk exclaims, “I chose to join these activities because I enjoy supporting others, building school spirit, and being part of a positive, energetic community. I also appreciate the teamwork and commitment that cheerleading requires. My experience has been extremely rewarding. Although the practices can be demanding sometimes, the environment is encouraging, and being part of a team that works hard together has been both motivating and meaningful. I love bonding with my team and forming friendships with them."
When asked about Onk’s favorite memories that she made from sports, she reveals, “One of my favorite memories is when our team successfully performed our routine at the Suburban League competition. We worked very hard on our routine, and the sense of accomplishment we felt made it an unforgettable moment.”
Onk has so many supportive friends and family members, but there’s somebody she looks up to the most. She mentions, “I look up to my dad. He pushes me to do my best, leads me with patience and strength, and sets an example of what dedication truly looks like. He sets high expectations for me, which make me want to try harder in everything I do."
With only a few months into junior year, Onk is excited for her junior year at Aurora. She exclaimed, “I am looking forward to improving my skills, learning new routines, taking on more responsibility within the team, and continuing to grow both personally and academically. I’m also excited about another year of school events and team bonding.”
Onk has accomplished so much these past few months, juggling both sports and academics. She is excited to see what her sophomore year holds at Aurora High School!
