I have only listened to 6,821 minutes of music on Spotify, mainly because my monthly subscription was unpaid, leading to uncomfortable, silent car rides… Hopefully, next year, my minutes improve, and I remember to pay Spotify. No guarantees, though, so fingers crossed.
Top Artists:
Lizzy McAlpine: An Icon. A storyteller. A lyrical genius. And, in all honesty, someone you listen to when you want to sit with your emotions and feel your sadness in all its fullness. Lizzy’s music is relatable and makes you feel heard and not alone, no matter what stage of life you are in.
Sabrina Carpenter: Sabrina is “that girl,” with her upbeat songs being a necessity for late-night drives with your best friends and immediately putting you in a good mood. From breakups to any sort of conflict, Sabrina is the artist who will give you an outlet to release your anger and make you feel understood.
Phoebe Bridgers: Surprisingly, she is my third-favorite artist, although I don’t know much about her or her music. She resembles Lizzy McAlpine, bringing forth all the feels. Phoebe definitely gives off “Sad girl energy,” making all of us feel less alone in our struggles.
ROLE MODEL: Three words: catchy, fun, and stylish. ROLE MODEL brings the energy and spirit to brighten your mood in any given situation. Bringing out special guests for his song “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out” brings giddy surprises and endless smiles. Seeing him in concert is without a doubt on my bucket list.
Noah Kahan: A comforting artist I put on to bring back happy memories or bring me peace of mind. Noah is relatable and warm; his music reminds me of sitting by a fireplace on a wintery evening, with a hot cocoa in hand and friends and family by your side. Noah Kahan will forever be one of my favorite concerts and an artist I can always come back to.
Top Songs:
Staying: Although “Staying” is about the ups and downs of a relationship, wanting to stay and then leave, I love the melodies and Lizzy’s voice and find relatability in the indecisive decisions, and relationships create (I am sadly a very indecisive person).
A Little Bit of Everything: This song puts me in my feels. Lizzy created this song to embrace life’s chaotic beauty; from the messy moments to the happy ones, life can be challenging, and it is important to sit in your thoughts and work through them. Life, with all its complexities, offers an abundance of emotions, and this song lets me work through them, just as Lizzy intended.
Soccer Practice: This song is about wishing your reality were different, whether that be in relationships, friendships, or goals/desires. I tend to get caught up in my dreams and what I wish would be my reality or future instead of being in the present and being thankful for what I have. This song helps me to slow down, and for that, I appreciate it.
Better Than This: In “Better Than This”, McAlpine brings forth the idea of feeling unworthy or not good enough. Like many teenagers, I can relate to this feeling and connect with this song. She hopes for a better future and that someone will love and appreciate her for all her flaws, as I do, showing relatability in self-doubt and desires for love.
Sally, When The Wine Runs Out: This song brings joy and excitement, making me giddy whenever I witness ROLE MODEL’s new “Sally” during a performance. From Comedy Media Influencer Jake Shane to actress Natalie Portman to my favorite musical artist, Lizzy McAlpine, ROLE MODEL brings celebrities together to celebrate icons. She shows his yearning for a deeper connection with his “Sally” when the “Wine runs out”, and he becomes sober. Friendships and connections filled with fun and laughter are what life is all about, and that is just one of the many reasons why I love this song.
Let’s just say, I am a Lizzy McAlpine stan and connect with her music on many levels. She is a lyrical genius and one I will continue to listen to. So shout out to ROLE MODEL and Sabrina for bringing me songs to shout, laugh, and smile too, and Phoebe Bridgers and Lizzy McAlpine, songs to connect, relate, and sit in silence too. Overall, the 2025 Spotify Wrap is an accurate representation of me and my music taste.
