Before Halloween, Paramount Pictures produced a new horror hit: “Smile 2.” This is a sequel to the 2022 movie “Smile.”
“Smile 2” follows a young pop star, Skye Riley, who experiences extremely disturbing events after her global tour. Skye Riley was in a car crash and, as a result, was prescribed painkillers. She then became hooked and had to find a drug dealer to find another substance to relieve her pain. Her dealer, Lewis Fregoli, kills himself in front of her, therefore passing on the curse.
The movie opens with an armed character getting ready to enter an abandoned house mid-winter. Once inside, he kills one man and then has to escape from a larger group of men, which I am assuming was some type of gang.
As someone who didn’t watch the prequel to “Smile 2”, I recommend that you do it before watching this movie so that the events in it make more sense. When walking into the movie theatre, I was expecting the film to be horrifying and thrilling. To my surprise, the movie wasn’t as scary as it was gory. While there were a few frightening “jump-scares,” most of the movie was just a lot of blood.
Many movie reviewers say “Smile 2” is scarier and smarter than the first movie. Critics also say it expands on the plot of the first movie. One of the characters, Joel, from the last film, is the opener of this movie. While many say this movie is better than the first, there are a lot of mixed reviews. If I had to rate it, I would say that it earns 3/5 stars, consistent with the feedback of viewers who rated it on Google.
“Smile 2” was 2 hours long. Some parts of the movie were exciting and kept you wanting to watch, but others were slow, and sometimes, it felt like the plot was just being dragged on.
My favorite part of the movie was Naomi Scott's performance as Skye Riley. She did a fantastic job bringing intensity to the role. The producers also did an excellent job with lighting and music. The lighting of the scenes helped add fear to the movie, and the music helped bring power to the various scenes.

Overall, many people enjoyed the movie, which is rated 3.7/5 stars on Google and 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. This film alternates between flashbacks and the present moment to progress the plot. There are also scenes where Skye Riley has different delusions that provide a really interesting feature in the movie.
The only part of the movie that I have a genuine complaint about is the ending. Without giving too much away, the ending was weird and almost confusing. It seems like they were setting it up to have a “Smile 3" and mmany reviewers think that they will continue these movies just like the famous series “Saw.”
While the movie is rated R, I would say that buying the ticket and seeing “Smile 2” is worth it if you saw “Smile 1” and are interested in horror films. The movie was compelling and told a solid story of horror.
