Most students had Señora Brancazio in 8th grade Spanish in middle school, and she has had and continues to have a lasting impact on her students. Her positivity and fun-loving personality brighten the lives of her students each and every day.
Señora Brancazio has been teaching for 26 years, and shares her journey to becoming an educator: “I wanted to become a teacher because I highly value learning and education and I am passionate about the Spanish Language and Cultures. I had an unforgettable Spanish teacher when I was a High School student and I want to share the ability to communicate in another language with students because I know what an enriching life experience it is.”
Before coming to AHS as a teacher, Señora Brancazio attended several institutions on her journey to becoming a teacher: “I started my education in Aurora K-12, and from there I went to Miami University (International Studies), Florida Atlantic University (International Business), Kent State University (Master of Arts in Teaching Spanish), and many, many hours of advanced coursework.”
Mrs. Brancazio shares about her positive high school experience and reflects on those years, “I had a wonderful high school experience including lifelong friends, a lot of fun, dedication to my studies and learning, and amazing opportunities. You won't walk through that part of the path of life again, so it is important to make the most of it!”
Among the many outstanding qualities of Aurora High School, one stands out to Señora Brancazio. Mrs. Brancazio exclaims, “I enjoy the people-to-people connections best and celebrating each day together.”
Mrs. Brancazio values and appreciates the little moments in life, but her favorite memories from teaching at AHS come from exchange programs. “I have many highlights and snapshot memories, but one that stands out is exchange programs and seeing people connect with one another to make lifelong friendships,” Mrs. Brancazio states.
Out of the many complex concepts involved in learning Spanish, the culture of learning the language is what Mrs. Brancazio enjoys the most: “I enjoy teaching through a cultural lens, comparing cultures, and learning about different perspectives which is a thread through all levels of Spanish, but I do really love grammar and words and how it all fits together,” Mrs. Brancazio shares.
Continuing on the theme of favorite subjects, Spanish along with a few other subjects is Señora Brancazio’s main interest: “Español, ¡por supuesto! However, I really still like English, especially writing, grammar, and vocabulary as well as Social Studies - history, politics, and current events and issues.”
Mrs. Brancazio enjoys taking walks, traveling, hiking, being with her family, and just being outdoors. One thing that truly embodies who she is as a person is her kindness and compassion for others, “I think my students know a lot about me, but maybe they don't know that I start every day being thankful.”
Mrs. Brancazio is always helping and supporting her students whenever she can, and her empathy toward others is extraordinary: ‘Probably my best teaching quality is that I genuinely care so much about and value my students and want them to always be moving forward/in a positive direction.” Mrs. Brancazio shares the person who has also made a difference in her life, “My mother because, no matter what, she always saw the good in people and did what she could to make a positive difference.”
Mrs. Brancazio is an unforgettable and amazing teacher that any student would be lucky to have. Her kindness and compassion for others is unmatched. Great teachers like her change lives every day.
