The moment Tate McRae hit the stage, Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse exploded with energy, and it never slowed down.
Tate McRae has been touring on her Miss Possessive tour for her newest album “So Close to What” which came out in February of 2025. This is her third studio album and most popular yet. “So Close to What” has singles from the album released before it, such as “It’s OK I’m OK,” “2 Hands,” and “Sports Car.” Her song “Revolving Door” was released in alignment with the album’s debut. This album became McRae's first album on both Canada’s and the U.S #1 Billboard charts.
The Miss Possessive Tour is McRae’s first-ever arena tour. It started on March 18, 2025, and is planned to finish on November 8, 2025. “So Close to What,” the album she is touring for, is definitely her most popular album and has received the most publicity. This album really put her face out there, and she is now known as a top artist.
Getting into the concert experience, let's start with tickets. Getting tickets to concerts these days is not ideal… actually, very hard sometimes. There was a pre-sale and general sale for these tickets, which both took on in November 2024. These ticket prices were fairly reasonable. The tickets all the way at the top were around an average of $80-90; the seats closest that were not VIP were around $240. Compared to ticket prices now, this is not very much up front. As her album became more popular, though, and got more publicity, more people wanted to go to the tour, so resale tickets went all the way up. By the time it was the beginning of August, tickets at the top of Rocket Mortgage were at least $200, and the lower you go, the more expensive it was. Although if you really wanted to attend her tour, you would have spent a lot to go.
The arena itself, Rocket Mortgage, was very organized and well run. The doors opened at 6 p.m., and so many people were waiting before then. Security did not take long at all, and then once you got in, most people went straight to the merch table. The merch line did not take long to get through; the staff was very efficient.
Tate McRae did not even go on stage until about 9 p.m.. Meanwhile, her opener, Zara Larsson, went on at about 7:30 p.m.. Zara Larsson is an amazing performer; it felt like she got her own little concert. She set a very fun and loud vibe and got everyone ready to experience the full energy of McRae.
Once the clock hit 9 p.m., everyone knew Tate McRae was about to go on stage, and the energy in the arena was wild. This was a sold-out show, so you could imagine the loud ringing in your ears from everyone screaming. There were smoke machines and flashing lights on the stage, followed by music and Tate McRae singing “Miss Possessive", one of her popular songs on the albums. The arena felt like it was shaking and everyone was screaming so loudly.
Tate McRae's backup dancers are amazing performers, too. There are not even a lot of them, but they bring the energy. McRaeeven gave them their own song where they all got a special part to dance on their own, and they did amazing, with the whole arena cheering for them.
As the concert went on, she sang more songs from her album, and the energy never declined. She performed so well and actually danced with her backup dancers as well. Some would even say that half of her performance was dancing and the other half was singing;it was a good balance of both. The reason she is such a good performer, though, is that throughout her childhood, she was a dancer and a very good one at that.
McRae started dancing when she was very young in Calgary, Canada, where she is from. She trained extensively in ballet and then also in contemporary. She is very popular in the dance world, such as winning Best Female Dancer at “The Dance Awards” in the mini, junior, and teen divisions. She is one of the very few dancers to win it three times. The one thing many people who were not dancers may have known her from is being on the popular show "So You Think You Can Dance” when she was 13 and making it to the finale.
Dance actually helped her get into music. While in her dance career, McRae started working more on her music. She started posting videos on social media and YouTube, which helped build her following. Specifically, she started a series called “Create with Tate” where she would feature original songs she wrote and recorded in her bedroom, marking her initial step into music. The first song she released under this series, "One Day," got a lot of attention, getting over 40 million views and prompting McRae to self-release it as her debut single. In April of 2020, McRae released "You Broke Me First," a track that became her breakout hit. The song gained popularity on TikTok, where it was featured in over a million videos, and achieved significant success on streaming platforms. In 2022, she released her debut album, “Used to Think I Could Fly” which made her presence more known as a popular artist. Following that, in December of 2023, she released “Think Later” which was her sophomore album. This album did become very popular and was very high on the charts.
Regarding the audience, it was electric; everyone around knew every song, not even missing one word. Even at one point,McRae went to her stage B, which was across from the stage, and sang some of her original songs from when she used to post on YouTube, and even 90% of people in the arena knew them and were singing along.
Overall, this tour was the best I have ever been to, and was definitely worth the money. If you like upbeat music, good dancing, and constant entertainment, go to a Tate McRae concert. You won't be disappointed.
