Are you feeling cold now that the weather is becoming more frigid? Do you ever just want to return to summer when it was warm and stress-free? Here is a list of books that came out during the summer and are perfect for reading to relive the summer vibes and weather.
One of the best summer books came out in May of 2024 and was nominated for the best romance book of the year. “Just For The Summer” by Abby Jimenez is one of the best summer books of the year. The story starts when one of the main characters, Justin, has a “curse” that any girl he dates, they break up with him and find their soulmate. The other main character, Emma, reaches out to him in his DM’s, saying she is in a similar situation, and that they should “date” and later break up so they can find their soulmates. The author Abby Jimenez, claims this was supposed to be a “Small Summer Fling” but what if them finding each other was fate after all? I rated this book five out of five stars; I loved the plot and the summer scene in the book, and the book was perfect to read in the summer, even better on the beach. I finished the book in five days, and it was a longer book than I usually read, but it was an amazing book with so many funny parts.
Another book that came out in May as well and was an option for the book of the month program, was “The Paradise Problem” by Christina Lauren. Christina Lauren has written many books that were made for the summer, more that will be stated later in this article. “The Paradise Problem” starts when Anna Green has been struggling financially, after quitting her job of being a nurse to focus on her passion for art. One night, her ex, Liam, known as “West Weston” whose family has a 100 million dollar company, shows up at her apartment to encourage her to be his plus one for his brother's wedding, which takes place on a tropical private island because his parents still think they’re married. West offers her a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, by offering a big chunk of money that Anna desperately needs. Anna accepts the offer and has to make it seem like she and West have been dating for the past five years. I rated this book a 5 out of 5 stars. I love Christina Lauren’s writing style and I love the plot that happens in her books.
An amazing author who has also made some amazing books to read during the summer is Emily Henry. Emily Henry has written an outstanding book for the summer called “Beach Read.” “Beach Read” is a book that starts out as enemies and blossoms into more. Augustus Everett and January Andrews are polar opposites. They are both authors who write completely different genres and have had a history between them. January is staying in a beach house for the summer and finds out her neighbor is the one and only Augustus Everett, who lives there. January and Augustus somehow end up talking about books they plan to write next, which turns into a competition. Whoever wrote the best book, the loser has to brag about their book, but there’s one catch: they have to write a book in each other's genres. During the process of experimenting, going to interview somebody about similar experiences in their book, Augustus and January build a bond with each other that could lead to more. I gave this book a 4 out of five stars because it took me a while to get into the book and it was hard to understand at first. Overall, the book was good and I would suggest that people read it.
Last but not least, another summer book written by Christina Lauren is called “Love and Other Words.” “Love and Other Words” is a story that has flashbacks as chapters and the chapters tie into present-day time in the story. The main character, Macy, moved into a cabin with her father after her mom passed away. As she walks into her new room, she meets a boy who’s the same age as her, named Elliot, who later on becomes good friends with Macy, because they both like to read together. At the beginning of the class, present day, Macy runs into Elliot after not seeing him for 11 years. Elliot confessed he still has feelings for her, but Macy is getting married in a few months. Macy and Elliot start hanging out more often to catch up on the 11 years they haven’t seen each other, but it starts to turn into more. Throughout the story, the flashbacks are connected to how their friendship grew and how it turned into more, but then the story reveals why they haven’t seen each other in 11 years. This book was such a good book and I would rate it 5 out of 5 stars because the plot of the story was so good; I loved how the story ended up coming together towards the end and it all made sense.
Overall, if you read any of these books this winter, you’re bound to be warm and stress-free. If you need any book recommendations, check out my good reads for inspiration!
