The Power of Belief in Every Note
Anne Wilson released her new album “Rebel” in April 2024, appealing to country music fans and Christian music listeners alike. She was first recognized for her single “My Jesus” in 2022, a number-one hit for country music. She decided to write this song after her brother passed away in an accident; her song was written for those who were struggling with loss. With this, she made her way into the hearts and homes of many and started to build a name for herself.
Anne Wilson's new album, “Rebel,” is a showstopper. Her music is well-rounded, with country and Christian themes; this album makes this evident. Without a doubt, you can see that Anne Wilson pours her heart into every song she sings. Her praise and faith are shown through her music, and she inspires others. I will take the time to review some of my favorite songs in her “Rebel” album.
Starting with track one of her album, “Rebel,” Anne sings about not backing down on her faith even when others doubt her and call her crazy. She talks about the world going one way, but she goes the other way, showing that she is strong in her faith. It shows that she is herself a Rebel going against the world's path, and going on her own path that her faith has taken her down. This song is a powerful battle cry that mixes intense vocals with an upbeat sound. She sings this song alongside other popular Christian artists Jeff Pardo and Mathew West. I love the message of this song and the beat makes the listener feel motivated to stand their ground.
Moving to track four, Anne Wilson mixes her Christian and country roots with her song “God and Country.” This upbeat song shows how she was raised in the country and how that only made her stronger in her faith. With the line “I'm hallelujah hands high and friends in low places, Red, white, and blue and red letter pages,” she shows how she learned from both important aspects of her life. This song is an uplifting country song that would add a little bit of sunshine to anyone's day. This is the kind of song you blast out the car window on a sunny day when going for a drive.
Track five is a powerful testimony to the power of prayer with the song “Praying Woman.” This song, the most powerful song in my opinion, is targeted at any woman living out their daily life. This song has an edge to it that I have never heard before. This is a song that reaches your soul in an indescribable way. This song shows the listener that even if you feel like you are insignificant in any way, you are not alone. This song shows the armor of faith and the strength of prayer in anyone's life. This song is the definition of “faith can move mountains.” I would deem this song to be my absolute favorite in this album. Anne Wilson and Lainey Wilson mix their incredibly powerful voices to produce a song that the world was waiting for.
Her next track, “Songs About Whiskey,” is about hearing songs on the country radio about drinking and regrets that people find. She reflects on the fact that what you sing is what you know and sings the line: “I guess I'm just kinda fixed on, The only thing that's ever fixed me, That's why I sing songs about Jesus, Instead of singing songs about whiskey.” This song is a twist on traditional country music, it’s almost country music in reverse. This is a more relaxed song in the album, with a traditional country music feel, and the change of words makes this song a unique and fun song to listen to, with a good moral lesson for the listener.
The next track appeals to teenage girls and young adults who are looking for relationships. The title is a coined popular term: “Red Flag.” Anne Wilson talks about what her mother showed her what to look for in a man. She lists the qualifications that a man should have and the golden rule that they should follow. Anne Wilson sings, “He's a no-go if he don't go to church, Better slow down if he ain't down to earth.” This song strongly relates to this generation and has a lively beat that makes the listener want to hear it over and over again. This song is a must-listen, especially for girls who are in high school and college. This is a lively and enjoyable song that everyone should listen to.
The last song I would like to highlight is “3:16” a song about a Bible verse that has made an impact on Anne Wilson. It goes through the verse itself in the song and is a powerful testimony to the moment she first read the verse. It tells the story of how you don’t have to be perfect, that there is someone who died for you, and how it can change lives. This slow and melodic song is another one that pulls at heartstrings and makes the listener get lost in the lyrics. This praise is the type of song that you sing out. Even if you sing off-key, it still is amazing every time, but only because the words of this song have so much power and grace.
Anne Wilson gave the world a gift with this new music album and recognition is beyond deserved for this rising artist. I know that I and many others will be looking forward to more music from her in the future, but until then, we can take a drive and listen to Anne Wilson’s music on full blast down the country roads.
