Ms. Waysack has been a math teacher at AHS for eighteen years, nineteen if you count the one year she student-taught here.
Becoming a teacher was something Ms. Waysack wanted to do since she was a camp counselor when she was younger. “I know a lot of people struggle with math, and I felt that I could do a good job explaining how math works. I was hoping to show students that math isn't as challenging as everyone makes it out to be,” she explained. Another factor in her decision to become a teacher was the fact that she wanted a career that kept her busy and engaged in her work throughout the day.
Ms. Waysack attended Twinsburg High School and graduated as valedictorian. She states that after high school, “I earned both my Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in education from Kent State University, with a focus on math education.” It’s safe to say that she achieved a lot through her education in both high school and college.
To focus more on what Ms. Waysack was like in high school, "I was more shy in terms of my personality in high school than I am now, but I had a great group of kind and trustworthy friends.” She talks more about how she enjoyed school and thinks she is hardworking.
She also participated in quite a bit of school activities; being a part of NHS, and playing both basketball and volleyball. “One of my favorite memories was winning the conference championship over multiple years with my basketball team,” she describes.
Ms. Waysack reveals who has had the biggest impact on her. “My Dad overcame a lot of struggles in his life and watching him turn his life around to be the wonderful person that he is today is inspiring,” she explains.
Some students may already know this fact about Ms. Waysack, but one of her favorite activities to do after school is to go horseback riding: “I ride horses regularly. I used to ride competitively and would love to get back into horse showing again someday.” Horseback riding is such a fun activity for her to do in her free time.
Each year, Ms. Waysack focuses on the things that didn’t go well in prior years to try and improve them for the new school year: “I am very self-reflective when it comes to teaching and I am always trying to find better ways to help all students do well in my math classroom.” This is something that she believes would be her best teaching quality, and many students would agree.
In conclusion, Ms. Waysack is a teacher who cares deeply about how her students do in her class and strives to see them succeed. This is something that makes her class enjoyable and makes her stand out as a teacher.
