Bennet Deluca is a freshman at AHS and an amazing golfer.
After asking what sports she enjoys, Bennet shared, “A sport that I really enjoy and love to do is golf.”
Golf is important to Bennet for so many reasons. The main one is, "Golf is really important to me because I've found a lot of passion in the sport. Golf is a game of mentality, strategy, and technique. Due to these challenges, golf makes me want to strive, get better, and work harder every day to be the absolute best I can be in my sport.” Bennet has found so many things in the sport that just make her love it even more. That even includes the people, she added, “Golf has also given me the opportunity to be in an amazing community and meet so many different people who also have so much love for the sport.” The people are what make it even more special for her.
Bennet shared how she first got into golf. “I first got into golf when I was really young. When I was five my dad introduced me to the sport and bought me my first set of clubs and I instantly loved the sport. Since I was so young, I disconnected from the sport for a while but as I got older, I picked the club back up. I knew golf was going to stick with me for a while.” Although she took a break from it for a while, the sport came back to her. She shares, “What made me want to continue the sport was the excitement every day to go back out on the range and practice, as well as my passion for golf that was growing.”
There are so many memories that are important to Bennet that came from this sport. She said, “Some of my favorites are any of the summer practices with the golf team, we always had so much fun and it was really nice for all of us to have fun whilst working really hard to get better. And another one of my favorite memories was my family golf outing from this past summer.” Even though the team was just practicing,a lot of memories came from it because of how fun it was, and theft also improved while having fun.
Bennet has goals inside, and outside of golf. She says, “A goal that I have for myself in regards to golf, is to get mentally stronger when I'm on the course. What I plan to do to get mentally stronger in golf is when I have bad rounds or holes that I did not perform well in, I will take away from that and learn from my mistakes to better myself. And a goal I have from outside of golf, is to stay motivated at all times. Especially to stay motivated to learn and reach my full potential inside and outside of the classroom.” It is really important to not give up on yourself even when you do bad, and Bennet likes to work on that. She also continues to make sure she is working hard in school and stays empowered to do good.
Out of the many people Bennet looks up to, she especially looks up to her mom. “A person I really look up to in life is my mom. My mom is a huge part of how far I've gotten in golf, school, and so many other important areas of my life.”
In school, Bennet does well, but she shares about her biology class. “A class in school that is challenging for me is Biology. It's specifically challenging for me because of the workload and the depth of each chapter and topic. But I am fortunate because by just taking this class, I learned how to study and how to understand a specific topic as well as I can.” Even though she doesn't always do well, she works hard to still learn the material and do the bets she can.
Balancing schoolwork and extracurricular activities can be hard, but Bennet does pretty well at it. She shares, “In the beginning of the golf season, balancing my school work and golf was definitely not easy. It was especially hard because I had to often leave school early and come home late. As this cycle went on, I came up with ways to complete my work that were efficient to me. I often did my work early so I didn't have to worry about it, or I would complete it in study hall.” She works hard at getting everything done, and keeping up with her grades. Bennet is not in any clubs currently, but she plans on joining over 3 next year.
