Literature:

Our focus this week will shift to the literature of the Middle Ages, starting with Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. We will begin by translating the opening lines of the General Prologue to The Canterbury Tales from the original Middle English. Students will then collaboratively read the remainder of the Prologue, focusing on character development and the vivid picture the text gives us of the medieval era.

By next Monday, September 14, I am asking that students read two tales from The Canterbury Tales: "The Wife of Bath's Tale" and "The Pardoner's Tale." Texts of both are attached below. Students should also complete the reading guide for both tales as they read. I will give it out in class, but it is also attached here.
