Post date: Sep 30, 2016 3:21:17 PM

Here's an overview of what we are doing this week:

Independent Novels (D.E.A.R. Books)

We will continue to read our books before lunch rather than completing vocabulary. It will be back in a few weeks.

Argumentative Writing from the Colonial Era:

We have one more piece to look at from the Revolutionary period: Benjamin Banneker's letter to Thomas Jefferson. We will split this piece into sections and make small groups of students responsible for analyzing their section before presenting it to the class.

Our assessment over argumentative writing will be on Thursday of this week. We will review on Wednesday and give you more information about what to expect from this assessment.

Controversial Topics Research and Analysis:

To wrap up our unit over argumentation you find two articles with opposing views on a controversial topic and analyze how the two articles make their arguments, also explaining which article you found to be most effective. That is the first part of this assignment.

In the second part of the assignment, you will write your own argument on this topic, using the articles you found and analyzed for support and rebuttal. We'll give you a lot more details and explanation in class, but this task is specifically designed to mimic something you will be asked to do on our Milestones EOC near the end of the semester.
