Post date: Nov 06, 2016 12:52:43 AM
Here's a quick look at what we will be doing in class this week:
On Monday, students will finish presenting their scenes from act four of Hamlet. We should also have time to view the film of act four, too.
Tuesday is election day, in case you haven't heard, and we will not have school.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we will finish our reading, viewing and discussion of Hamlet <sniffle>.
On Monday, Nov. 14 we will have our test over Hamlet. We'll talk more about what to expect on this test, but I've gone ahead and included review information here:
Format: 45 multiple choice questions & one open-book discussion question
What it covers/what you should know:
General characteristics of major characters and their motivations
Major plot points and their importance
Basic literary/drama terminology (application—not definition):
Soliloquy
Foil
In medias res
Tone
Hyperbole
Metaphor
Oxymoron
Puns
Personification
Metaphor
Verbal, dramatic, and situational irony
Allusion
A few questions will focus on short excerpts from the text, asking you to analyze them for meaning, tone, techniques used, etc.
There is also a short scene from another Shakespearean play, requiring you to apply your reading and analysis skills as you answer questions about it.
The discussion question focuses on a major theme or motif of the play and asks you to write about two characters and their behavior and actions as you illustrate how that idea is developed in the play. You should use your book for this one, so please bring it with you.
