Honors Brit. Lit. for Jan. 5-8

Post date: Jan 05, 2016 1:58:34 AM

Welcome to a new semester of Honors British Literature! Here is a brief overview of what we will be doing in the coming days:

Tuesday, Jan. 5: We will start the semester off with information about class procedures, curriculum, expectations, etc., and students will write a letter of introduction on the first day.

Since one focus of our study is on the influence of British literature on culture and American Literature, which you'll study next year, I will be asking you to bring in an item by Friday that represents your own origins and influences. I'll explain more in class.

Brave New World (pre-course reading)

    • We will start the semester off with various activities related to Brave New World, including a collaborative thinking and research activity that asks you to focus on various aspects of the book and its author. This activity will ultimately provide us with lots of fodder for discussion about Huxley's novel.

    • Please turn in your Notice and Note cards for Brave New World by Wednesday. See me if there is an issue regarding this.

    • Expect to complete an in-class essay about Brave New World next week.

    • For the second summer reading book, the choice novel, you will participate in some online discussion related to it via WikiSpaces. More information will follow in class.

Vocabulary Books: Please plan to purchase a vocabulary book for $12.00 by next week. See me if this is not practical, and you would prefer to check one out.
