American Lit. for Feb. 22-26

Post date: Feb 22, 2016 1:32:2 AM

Here's an overview of the coming week:

    • We will NOT have new vocabulary this week or for the next couple of weeks. Instead, we will have D.E.A.R. time to start class, reading a book of your choice and completing a project, as well as a brief daily reading log entry. In addition, we'll ask you to watch out for Notice and Note signposts as you read (We'll explain this in class). Media specialists will visit on Wednesday to check out books to us, and we'll get started reading.

    • On Monday, you'll complete a variety of station activities, exploring the idea of the American Dream. There is also a follow-up interview assignment to be turned in this Friday.

    • Our focus over the next two to three weeks will be argumentation and the techniques writers and other communicators use to effectively communicate their ideas to audiences. To this end, we will analyze advertisements and several primary source documents from around the time of the American Revolution, including Patrick Henry's "Speech to the Virginia Convention," The Declaration of Independence, and Benjamin Banneker's "Letter to Thomas Jefferson."
