Welcome to Second Semester!

Welcome to our blog for 9th Literature and Composition! Mrs. Thrash, Miss Pace, and I are excited to have the chance to work with you this semester. This blog will be a valuable resource for seeing what is going on in class each week, checking due dates, finding directions and materials for assignments, etc., so I urge you to bookmark it now.

Here is what's going on in class this week:

    • On Tuesday we will spend a good bit of class on procedures, policies, and expectations. In addition, we will take a pretest over literary terms to get an idea of what students know about the vocabulary that will be important in our discussion of literature this semester.

    • On Wednesday we will write and turn in letters of introduction. We will also read a brief nonfiction piece and complete an activity related to tone with it. If time permits, we will start some pre-reading activities for a short story called "The Sniper."

    • On Thursday, please bring in an item that answers the question: "Who are you?" You will do a little bit of writing about it, and we will post the items on our bulletin board, after telling what we brought and why. We will also continue our reading, discussion, and writing about "The Sniper."

    • On Friday, we will get ironic, as we focus on the different types of irony before delving into the literary dark side with Edgar Allen Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado."

**Disclaimer: This is the plan as of 9:45 Monday night. These plans may shift a little as the week progresses, but they provide a basic outline of what we will be up to for the next few days.
