Lesson for Friday, March 20

Post date: Mar 20, 2020 3:1:9 AM

Here’s the assignment for today. There’s no new reading; instead you are going to focus on part of the text you read yesterday and a scene from the movie.

  • First, be sure you’ve read through page 69 of The Great Gatsby. This was yesterday’s reading assignment.

  • Watch the movie scene corresponding to pages 65-68. Here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgAf9AuNc6Q

  • Respond to the following prompt via Padlet. If you’ve never used it before, Padlet is an online discussion board, so you’ll be adding your comments to what others have said.

On page 66 of Chapter 4, Nick states that Gatsby's description of his past "evoked no image except that of a turbaned 'character.'" In the movie scene corresponding to this passage, Nick states, "the way he spoke! No wonder people thought he was lying!"

What do you think Nick means by describing Gatsby as a "character," seeming to understand why others thought Gatsby was lying when describing his past? How does Nick's comment in the book compare to his comment in the movie?

Refer to examples from the text in your response.

*Click the + sign in the lower right of the Padlet screen to add your response.

*Be sure to put your name in the title line, like “Mr. Woodall’s Response”
