A.P. Literature for August 6-10

Post date: Aug 05, 2018 9:6:19 PM

Here's an overview of the coming week:

Vocabulary: We will start class each day with a vocabulary exercise from the Sadlier-Oxford Vocabulary Workshop book. If you haven't bought one yet, you should do so via My Payments Plus by next Monday. If buying one is an inconvenience, you are welcome to check on out from me. I will provide copies this week for anyone who doesn't yet have a book.

Our first vocabulary quiz, over unit one, is this Friday.

Multiple Choice Practice: Starting this week, a practice multiple choice section will be a Monday routine, providing exposure and practice for the kinds of questions you can anticipate on the A.P. exam in May.

Timed Writing Practice: Wednesdays will find us working with timed writing, focusing on a prompt from a past A.P. exam. This week will be our first of these with students writing about a provided prose passage.

"A & P" by John Updike: Please read this short story by Thursday. It can be found in your A.P. Literature textbook or here:

http://littletonpublicschools.net/sites/default/files/HHS-2015-Eng-10%20Honors%20Summer%20reading_1.pdf We will be making some connections between it and A Thousand Splendid Suns. Or at least I hope we will.

Autobiographical Essay: We will assign this on Monday, and students should complete a full draft to bring to class by next Tuesday, August 14. More details will be given on Monday.

A Thousand Splendid Suns: We will continue to discuss this book throughout the week, so please bring your copies to class.

Pride and Prejudice: If you haven't finished reading this summer reading selection, get it done. Our test over the novel is next Monday, August 13.
