American Lit. for August 28-Sept. 1

Post date: Aug 28, 2017 1:46:26 AM

Here's a brief snapshot of what we'll be doing this week:

Voice Lessons and Tone: We will start each class period this week looking at a brief excerpt from a piece of writing and analyzing its tone before completing a brief piece of writing that is meant to emulate its tone.

SpringBoard Unit One--Part Two: This week and next we will read a variety of literature related to The American Dream and its attainability, which will lead us to an argumentative exercise at the end of next week. To start the unit, we will review the three methods of argumentation: logos, pathos, and ethos. We will also supplement the selections in the SpringBoard book with a couple of other selections that effectively utilize argumentative methods.

****Definition Essays: We wrapped these up in class on Friday. If you haven't turned yours in, you should do so ASAP.

****Early Release on Wednesday, August 30. School will be dismissed at 11:30.

****No school next Monday, September 4, in observance of Labor Day.
