American Lit. for August 26-30

Post date: Aug 26, 2019 12:7:10 AM

Here is a quick overview of the week ahead:

We will NOT have vocabulary this week; instead, we will focus on a particular grammatical concept via a mentor sentence, like we did a two weeks ago. There will be a short quiz over this on Friday.

Most of our week will be spent on an article from Outside magazine by Jon Krakauer entitled "Death of an Innocent." Krakauer went on to expand this article into a full-length book called Into the Wild. I have attached the article to this post.

We will start this mini-unit with an activity involving several quotations that have thematic connections to the articles subject, a young man named Chris McCandless. After reading and discussing the article, our culminating activity will be a debate that centers around the idea of whether McCandless is someone to be admired or not.

One quick reminder: Wednesday is an early release day, and Friday we will have a modified schedule because of the pep rally.
