Research Brochure Turn in a printed copy on _____________________________

As we wrap up the semester, you will be creating a tri-fold brochure or a fact sheet that provides an informational overview of a topic that interests you. It can be a social issue, a controversial topic, a problem facing the world or individuals, a medical/mental issue, a hobby, etc. It can really be about anything that you care about and could inform others about.

    • Start with an introductory paragraph that gives an overview of your topic. It should not argue for or against a position related to your topic. It should just present a little basic background.

    • You should provide specific details about the topic. Find information that you think is important or interesting in relation to your topic. Include statistics and data if it’s relevant and you find it. Each piece of information should be followed by an MLA citation in parentheses that follows the information you got from that source.

    • Use at least two relevant pictures related to your topic. Include the sources in MLA style on the Works Cited page.

    • Include at least one chart, graph, diagram, etc. related to your topic. Again, you need to cite the sources.

    • Provide a Works Cited page in MLA style. You should use at least three sources related to your topic to actually find the facts about your topic. This can be a separate page.

    • When you use borrowed information, be sure to cite in parentheses the name of the author or the name of the website, article, etc. (when there is not author). You do not need to include URLs.

    • If you directly quote from a source, be sure it’s in quotation marks and cited properly.

    • It’s better to put borrowed information in your own words, BUT you still need to tell where it came from with a proper citation.

Sources: Try to use resources available through Cobb’s Digital Library instead of just wildly Googling. Here is log-in information for the CDL: user: Kennesaw pw: mustangs11

If you do use other internet sources, check their credibility. Who created the information? What is their reason for doing so? Are they affiliated with a news organization or some sort of organization related to your topic, or is it just an individual with an opinion?

MLA Works Cited: Use EasyBib, which our school subscribes to. You can also use it as an electronic notebook to collect information. Here is log-in information:

Microsoft Publisher is the best program for creating a brochure. It is on the school computers, and there is a template for a tri-fold brochure that you can place information into.
