American Lit. for Sept. 5-8

Here's an overview of the week ahead:

• • Last Friday we started watching Lorraine Hansberry's classic A Raisin in the Sun, and we will wrap up our viewing and discussion at the start of this week. As we finish our unit related to the American Dream, we will also read The Declaration of Independence and analyze the argumentative methods used by Thomas Jefferson and the other authors of the document.

  • To finish up our American Dream unit, students will complete an activity in which they locate information that both supports and refutes the argument that the American Dream is still attainable. More details will follow in class.

  • Next week, we will shift our focus to some research and readings that will be a precursor to our reading and study of Arthur Miller's play The Crucible.
