Assignment for Wednesday, March 24

Here's today's assignment. As noted in yesterday's post, you won't be doing any additional reading for today. Instead, you'll be doing a creative writing assignment based on yesterday's reading.

Before you begin today's assignment, make sure you've finished reading the first half of chapter 5 (page 81-90) of The Great Gatsby (your assigned reading from Tuesday).

On page 88, Nick leaves Gatsby alone with Daisy. We as the reader do not know what is said between Gatsby and Daisy after Nick leaves the two alone. Your assignment for today is to write the dialogue that you think may have occurred between the two. This should be a half-page in a normal

***As you write, remember from a past discussion we had in class that the standard convention when writing dialogue is to begin a new paragraph, indenting, each time the speaker changes. This is true no matter how long or short the character's speech is. Use the book as an example of how to properly punctuate dialogue.

The conversation on page 84 between Nick and Gatsby gives you a good example of this.
