Here's what to expect in our class this week:

1) First, we will begin to establish a routine with vocabulary this week, completing unit one in the Sadlier-Oxford Vocabulary Workshop books. We will introduce the words for the week on Monday, and you will have nightly assignments in the vocabulary book as follows:

    • Monday--Choosing the Right Word for unit one

    • Tuesday--Synonyms and Antonyms for unit one

    • Wednesday--Choosing the Right Word unit one

    • Thursday--Study for Friday's vocabulary quiz

We will begin class each day this week by checking your vocabulary homework and going over the assignment so that you can check your answers and your own comprehension.

To help you prepare for Friday's vocabulary quiz, here are links to Quizlet--electronic flashcards and games you can play to help you with the week's words.

2) Continuing what we began last week, we will explore the concept of The American Dream, an idea we will return to throughout the year. We will work to define it based on excerpts from several reading and will then complete a variety of activities that will give us an idea of various interpretations and reactions to the American Dream.

3) We will also work on mini-research projects related to the lives of the New England Puritans as we prepare to begin Arthur Miller's play The Crucible.
