Here's a quick overview of the coming week:

Vocabulary:

    • We will start our first unit in the Sadlier-Oxford Vocabulary Workshop books this week, so please be sure to either buy one or check one out from me. Books cost $12.00 if you are purchasing one.

    • We will establish a routine with vocabulary this week that we will follow for the next few weeks:

-On Monday we will introduce the new words for the week, and I will ask you to complete "Choosing the Right Word" for this week's unit. We will check for completion of this and go over correct answers on Tuesday.

-On Tuesday, you should complete "Synonyms and Antonyms" for the week's unit.

-On Wednesday, you should complete "Completing the Sentence."

-On Thursday, you should study as needed for the weekly vocabulary quiz to be given on Friday.

Brave New World

Having spent much of last week researching and thinking about various facets of the book and Huxley's life, we will launch into our discussion of the book this week. I expect us to spend part of class on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday discussing the book. On Thursday, you should anticipate an in-class writing assignment about Brave New World.

Anglo-Saxon Literature

As we start this week, we will also introduce Anglo-Saxon literature. We will begin with an article that provides some background into Anglo-Saxon culture and Beowulf, the era's most enduring and influential piece of literature.

We will also explore Anglo-Saxon riddles and another piece of Anglo-Saxon poetry, "The Seafarer." You should expect to have the Beowulf reading assignment by Tuesday and to have it completed by next Tuesday.

WikiSpaces Summer Reading Responses

Be sure to have the task we discussed in class Friday completed by this Friday, January 15. Please see me with any questions, problems, or concerns. Details are on a previous post on this page.
