Honors Brit. Lit. for Sept. 19-23

Post date: Sep 19, 2016 1:41:59 AM

Here's what we are doing until fall break:

Middle Ages Assessment on Monday: We have our assessment over the middle ages. You will be able to use your notes over peers' middle ages presentations, the chart you compiled with notes about the Canterbury pilgrims, and the notes on elements of ballads.

Revisions of Beowulf Essays: If you were asked to revise your paper or if you chose to after receiving your grade, revisions are due via email by midnight on Monday, Sept. 19. Be sure to use track changes as you edit your papers. If you were asked to revise and choose not to, your grade will be a 60% on this paper. All of this has been discussed in class several times.

Unit 6 Vocabulary: Because of our assessment on Monday, we won't introduce vocabulary until Tuesday. Please follow the schedule below.

Tuesday in class: Introduce words and complete "Choosing the Right Word"

Tuesday's homework: Complete "Synonyms and Antonyms"

Wednesday's homework: "Completing the Sentence"

Thursday's homework: Prepare for Friday's vocabulary assessment

Friday in class: Alternate vocabulary assessment (solo or with partners)

The Renaissance:

We will begin our unit on Renaissance literature this week, focusing on a few poems from the time period. We will discuss scansion and how to determine the meter of a poem, as well as reviewing a variety of poetic devices and the purposes and effects behind their use.

After the break, students will work in peer groups to teach an assigned poem to the class.

Hamlet: If you asked me to order a copy of the play for you--and all but one student did--they should be in by midweek, so plan to bring your $3.00 to get your book. The cost was $2.99 per book plus ten percent for shipping, but I'll cover the shipping cost.

Literature Circles: We will also set up literature circles this week, so you can get ahold of a copy of your book. Groups will convene for the first time a few days after returning from our break. I'll provide more details about this in class Tuesday.
