A.P. Lit. Opportunities for April 27-30

Our own state has a rich literary heritage, and in my opinion Georgia has no greater author than the late Flannery O'Connor.

Here is a quick video to introduce you to her background and to provide a little information about her work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNqF_4hF0-w

Attached below is one of my favorite stories by O'Connor: "Enoch and the Gorilla"

I will set up a Zoom session for Thursday at 2:00 for anyone who'd like to discuss the story. If you want to participate but won't be available, let me know and I'll see what other time we can work out.

As you read the story, consider the following:

    • How O'Connor utilizes dark humor in her story

    • How she creates a character who we may feel ambivalent about

    • How she has created a character who is damaged or unwhole in some way

    • How this story can be viewed through the lens of sin and redemption
