Post date: Jul 30, 2017 7:25:27 PM

Here's an overview of the first few days of the semester:

Most of Monday will be spent on procedures, expectations, etc. and previewing the coming semester. I have attached our course syllabus below, and students will receive a copy in class that they should bring back signed. Students will also be asked to write a letter of introduction, which may or may not be finished in class. I've attached directions for it below.

We will start the semester focused on reading a couple of short pieces that lend themselves to analyzing tone, one of the harder tasks facing a reader. I have attached both of them here.

We will also take two pre-assessments this week to gauge where students' skills and knowledge are in regards to a variety of reading and language skills.

By the end of the week, we will start to discuss and explore the idea of The American Dream, a concept that will relate to much of our reading this semester.
