The Shadows rise once more and attack the races of the galaxy. Without the Palman Imperium to beat them back many planets are destroyed. The Narn homeworld is occupied by the Shadows and all the Narn telepaths are killed. The telepathic gene is never strong enough in the survivors to reassert the trait. Many other races have legends of dark ships and invaders dating from this era.
The Minbari rally the other spacefaring races to battle against the Shadows. When it seems that defeat is inevitable following the destruction of their chief command post, a battlestation appears from nowhere. On board is Valen, the Minbari not born of Minbari. Valen rallies the Minbari, creates the tri-fold caste system, the Grey Council and the Rangers, and leads the fight against the Shadows. The ancient enemy are driven back to their homeworld of Z’ha’dum and defeated, During this time the borg collective suffers extensive memory damage, which indicates the death of a large amount of borg, hinting that they may have also been attacked by the shadows or by their neighbors; who were likely manipulated to do so.
The Nacene, a group of non-humanoid extragalactic explorers, visit the Ocampa homeworld in the Delta Quadrant. They unwittingly cause the eradication of all nucleogenic particles from the planet's atmosphere. Two Nacene choose to remain and protect the Ocampa from the damage they caused.
Qo'noS is attacked by a group of plundering aliens, whom the Klingons name the Hur'q. Many cultural artifacts are stolen, most notably the Sword of Kahless. Also during this period, Klingon warriors set out and slay all of their gods, because they are more trouble than they are worth
A coalition of Delta Quadrant species led by the Turei drive the Vaadwaur back to their homeworld and bombard the planet and its dominant species to near-extinction. The Turei take custody of Underspace, previously controlled by the Vaadwaur. Surviving Vaadwaur enter stasis.
