Superscale

Superscale Size

The first and most important quality is the craft’s superscale size. Using the normal size scaling system, the spacefaring craft of the universe range from Medium-sized (for a spacesuited humanoid) to the Colossal-sized big cargo shuttles and free traders. The problem is that there are also gradations of size beyond this – there are gunboats, Hyperions, Sharlins and Explorers. Such craft are far beyond Colossal and need to be represented as such. In order to make sure that this

greater scale of size is represented in game terms, all craft are described in terms of their superscale size, as shown on the Superscale Size table.

Superscale sizes roughly work out to being four steps larger than their normal size counterparts.

So a Human wearing a spacesuit, who is normally Medium size, is only Fine superscale size.

Fine Craft

Fine-sized superscale craft, typified by a crewman in a spacesuit, do not follow some of the usual rules of craft. For

instance, they do not have structural spaces. This means that any amount of damage will automatically and utterly destroy

a Fine-sized superscale craft. It is for this reason that crew do not generally like to don spacesuits and take a space walk

– they are incredibly vulnerable when doing so. Also, due to the lack of space available for anything above

the most basic life support, Fine-sized superscale craft usually carry out only very specific orders in space combat,

or none at all. Virtually all Fine-sized superscale craft also lack Armour.
