Dimension Worm

A Dimension worm is a form of nucleogenic lifeform whose molecular structure is capable of storing a great deal of a form of energy which can be used to drastically augment a vessel's FTL propulsion system.

Dimension worms create fissures to travel between their native realm and normal space, a properly calibrated shield can prevent dimension worms from forming fissures inside of facilities, however they can open fissures on the shield perimeter slowly draining them until they collapse.

Palmans and other First one races discovered that they emitted high levels of antimatter, and subsequently constructed a multiphasic chamber to confine the lifeforms for the purpose of study. During the course of their examination, however, they found they were unable to release the lifeform from the chamber, resulting in the lifeform's death.

Examining the remains, the first ones discovered that they could be converted into a source of fuel with which to augment their primitive engines, though the palmans protested (more likely for economic reasons than moral) the others performed this action by modifying the multiphasic chamber with a polaron grid and a submolecular resequencer to convert the remains into a crystalline compound. They then biochemically altered the compound to extract the base proteins, thereby gaining access to the nucleogenic energy stored within.

Most Dimension worms still carry the genetic memories of some of their kind who escaped this process as a result some remember this process being used and will be hostile to any races that they encountered during this era who used them as a fuel source.

Dimension worms are Immune to Positron weaponry and physical damage,

but are not immune to energy weapons like Phased plasma guns or Phasers.

Dimension worms can initiate a Thermolytic reaction via touch, killing most player characters instantly.

A thermolytic reaction was an energetic phenomenon fatal to humanoids, resulting in the complete dessication of a victim's cells.
