The gashyrr wasps were savage flying insects that lived in nests throughout the planet of Eldersthine. They had a worker caste which secreted a type of compound used for nest building.
This substance codenamed compound B-5801—resilient enough to last for years, which made them astounding, if slow, builders. Our latest research shows evidence of genetic trimming and manipulation, which preserved compound B-5801 and exponentially increased nest construction rates, but turned the Drones themselves into the foundation of all colony structures.
The wasps were assimilated into the Zerg Swarm to serve as a resource gatherer, becoming drones. Drones lost the ability to fly and are now relegated to hovering. Their wings and legs became fleshy, webbed membranes that keep them steady while in motion. Dedicated analysis has revealed that the aforementioned membrane is capable of expanding rapidly with a proper source of nourishment—creep, for example.
Drones now possess a peculiar organ dubbed a Float Blatter that emits a low-frequency energy field that disrupts gravity around the Drone. The creature then “swims” through the air by undulating its body and using some of the excess energy as a means of propulsion.
The Drone’s pincers are a minor evolution of the Larvae’s mandibles, which grants them the ability to clamp and transport objects. The osseous tissue hardens through the pupation cycle, and its density allows the Drones to cut mineral crystals with ease, or defend themselves in a pinch.

Fast Healing 1: A Drone heals 1 point of damage a round as long as its conscious.
Bypass DR: A Drone ignores the first three points of DR/Hardness while attacking.
Hivemind: All Zerg within the same brood are in constant mental communication. If one is aware of a particular threat, they all are. If one Zerg in a brood is not flat-footed, none of them are. No Zerg in said brood is flanked unless all of them are.
Mutation: Drones are used to mutate into the various Zerg buildings required by the swarm in a staggeringly quick fashion, growing into a towering building in just hours or days depending on the structure required and available food.
Hold Breath (Ex) A zerg can usually hold its breath for a number of hours equal to four times its Constitution score, after which it must make a Constitution check each hour (DC 10 + 1 per previous success) to avoid suffocation.
Zerg Metabolism (Ex) A zerg can usually go without food for a number of days equal to its Constitution score + 3, after which it must make Constitution checks as normal to avoid starvation. A zerg can usually go without water for 2 days plus a number of hours equal to eight times its constitution score, after which it must make Constitution checks as normal to avoid dehydration.
Amphibious (Ex) Zerg breathe both air and water equally well.
Corrosive Saliva (Ex) Zerg deal 1 additional point of acid damage when making a successful bite attack.
