Crime

Crime is tracked by region. In some regions you may be a notorious criminal, while in others you may be a no-body. If enough time passes, word of your crimes may spread from one region to the next.

Breaking and Entering

Breaking and entering is defined under Imperial law as any act encompassing magically or mundanely causing a door, window, or other portal that is locked or otherwise restricted to outside access to be passable, whether by lockpicking, breaking down a door, casting a destructive spell at it, teleporting through, or otherwise, and/or the act (although the act is not required to be charged for the crime) of entering said portal or private property.

Breaking and entering results in a 1000 EC fine, and/or up to one day in prison. The fine and/or incarceration period may be less in attempted breaking and entering. Attempted breaking and entering is defined as the act of preparation or attempt at magically or mundanely causing a door, window, or other portal that is locked or otherwise restricted to outside access to be passable, whether by lockpicking, breaking down a door, casting a destructive spell at it, teleporting through, or otherwise, and/or the act (although the act is not required to be charged for the crime) of entering said portal or private property. Attempted breaking and entering results in a 5 energy credit fine, and/or up to twelve hours in prison.

Trespassing

Trespassing is a crime defined as walking, flying, riding, teleporting, floating, or otherwise moving and/or existing on a private or public property without the explicit permission, or what could be inferred as intended permission, of the caretaker or owner of the property. Trespassing is punished by a fine which is, on average, 500 energy credits and/or up to one day in prison. The fine and/or incarceration may be less if done accidentally or if the crime was only attempted, or higher if the trespasser had what could reasonably be inferred as criminal intent.

Assault

Any threat or attempt, regardless of success, to perform any physical, emotional, mental, or magical harm to an individual person or group of persons, or otherwise an entity assumed to be both sentient and non-hostile. The punishment may be up to a 40000 energy credit fine and one day in prison. The fine may be lower or higher depending on purpose and intent.

Murder

Any act which includes premeditated and/or malicious, or accidental yet with criminal intent, that results directly in the death of )or destruction with implied death of) an individual person or group of persons, and/or an entity otherwise assumed to be both sentient and non-hostile. Punishment may include a fine up to 100000 EC and/or ten days in prison.

Conspiracy

Vagrancy is the act encompassing but not limited to idle, beggarly and/or disorderly conduct unbecoming of a person or persons with an occupation, gold or home, or multiple of the above, or what can be assumed to be conduct unbecoming of a person or persons with those possessions. May be punished by a fine of up to 1000 EC, and one day in prison. The crime does not apply if vagrant is without occupation, wealth, or a home.

Smuggling

Any act of bringing in, taking out, teleporting, or causing to be brought in, taken out, or teleported an object considered illegal or, if not illegal, requiring an import or export tax which is not paid. Punishment may include a fine or incarceration period varied depending on the offensiveness of the item, the manner of smuggling, and the criminal intent. In serious cases exile or capital punishment may be appropriate.

Illegal Possession of a Firearm

(1) on the person's own premises or premises under the person's control; or

(1) the firearm is in plain view, unless the person is licensed to carry a firearm and the firearm is carried in a shoulder or belt holster; or

High Treason

Any act against, whether direct or indirect, or non-act which results in circumstances directly or indirectly against, a sovereign or vassal to a liege, resulting in any physical, emotional, mental, or magical harm in said sovereign or liege. The punishment for this crime is always the death penalty.

Pick-pocketing

Any act of attempted, whether successful or not, stealing, or taking an item directly from a person, group of persons and/or an entity that one would assume to be sentient and non-hostile, that they have on his, her, its or their own person. The punishment for this crime is 2500 EC and/or one day in prison.

Theft

Stealing will result in a fine equal to half of the value of the item stolen. If a criminal pays this fine, the item will also be confiscated. The minimum fine is 100 EC, even if the item cost less.

Escaping Jail

Fleeing from an imperial prison results in a 10000 EC fine in addition to the fines already on the criminal.

Punishment

Arrest

Until a criminal's bounty reaches 50 Energy Credits guards will not seek him or her out (unless caught in the act), for the crime is much too petty. However, guards may arrest the criminal if he or she speaks to the guard for any reason, and identify him. When arrested, the individual may choose to pay a fine, or be put in prison.

Fines

When fines are paid the criminal is usually taken to the nearest official, searched (with any known and identified stolen items being confiscated), and released with a warning. If the criminal turns his, her, its or their self in, the fine is at a 10% discount.

Jail

A criminal is incarcerated for a period usually equaling one percent or one hundredth of their bounty in days,

rounded up.

Resisting Arrest

Resisting arrest is when a criminal attempts to free his, her, its or their self of arrest. If the individual surrenders, the guards in question will place him, her, it or them under arrest again.

Death Penalty

A death penalty is defined by a fine over 5000 Energy Credits, at which point guards will always attack in places which your crimes are known. A death penalty may automatically be issued for some crimes, such as high treason.
