Titanium, Tritanium, Neutronium

Titanium

Titanium is a chemical element with symbol Ti and atomic number 22. It is a lustrous transition metal with a silver color, low density and high strength.

It is highly resistant to corrosion in sea water, aqua regia, and chlorine.

Titanium is roughly the weight of aluminium, but as strong as iron. So despite being rather expensive, it finds an application in areas where weight is a concern, such as personal armour and military aviation. Some notable examples of its use include the USAF A-10 Thunderbolt II and the Soviet/Russian-built Sukhoi Su-25 ground-attack aircraft, utilizing a bathtub-shaped titanium enclosure for the pilot, as well as the Soviet/Russian Mil Mi-24 attack helicopter.

Pure Tritanium

Tritanium is an extremely durable material, and is also highly flexible as a result, Tritanium is the primary construction material in most structures and ships. It is found in most ore asteroids in space, however it does not appear in planetary atmospheres due to it's reactive nature with oxygen and other gases. Unfortunately the material is very corrosive and as such cannot be used in a raw form within most atmospheres. Certain alloys and compounds are not nearly as unstable.

Tritanium Alloy

Tritanium, in its most stable form, has an atomic mass of 323, and was discovered by Humans for the first time on planet Argus X

This element is part of the trans-uranic series of heavy elements.

Tritanium was of note to Palman and System's Alliance science because of qualities as a strong metal but only when used in alloys and compounds.

When alloyed with Duranium it found use within Starship construction in armor and hulls.

Tritanium is 21.4 times as hard as steel.

Refined tritanium was used by many races and cultures for construction purposes. For example, the System's Alliance and the Axanarri used tritanium for the hulls of starships while Cardassians used it in the construction of planetary facilities. Borg tactical drones possessed a tritanium infrastructure, as did Borg cubes. Tritanium and tritanium compounds are also used for certain projectile weapons, such as the TR-116 rifle. Tritanium in ship construction requires care for optimal living conditions. In 2284, Torias Dax smelled that the the crew of USS Excelsior had recently scrubbed the ship's tritanium fixtures when he came aboard.
