FERDIE VILLAR:

A LEGACY CELEBRATES LIFE

By Bradford Adkins, MSCIS

SEEN IN THE CITY

( SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO ) - With a huge smile in his face, still healthy rose pink complexion and wearing his red headdress that matches his equally bright red shirt, International Beauty Impresario Ferdinand ‘Syquia’ De Villar celebrated his 78th birthday last Saturday, May 30, 2015 at his bungalow residence for so many decades, in South San Francisco, attended by hundreds of guests, led by Commissioners Ray Satorre, Dorie Paniza, Daly City Councilors David Canepa, Mike Guingona and wife Jackie Castillejo, ABS-CBN Global’s PR Head Nerissa Fernandez, TFC’s Balitang America’s Henni Espinosa, the celebrant’s immediately family, relatives & friends.

To those attendees, Tito Ferdie, as he is fondly referred to in the community, is no ordinary birthday celebrant – as he carries with his long life, major snippets of entertainment history, as reflected in the collage of photos hanging by his walls. As we celebrate his birthday, we also rejoice for conquests and achievement in the entertainment field only he had ever achieved - and that is his legacy.

Reminiscent of One Direction’s MTV - “Story of My Life,” each picture comes to life as Tito Ferdie narrates the story on each historic photo. Hanging by the foyer area is his sepia-toned giant photo with the legendary Elvis Presley, taken when his family’s record label, Villar Records (yes, they own the famous huge recording company who signed those huge Hollywood stars and distributed their records during the vinyl days!) sent him to Tennessee to meet and close business with the biggest rock star then.

As we walk farther to the dining area, referring to an enlarged black and white photo, “That’s Muhammad Ali, sitting on my right, taken during the “Thrilla-in-Manila” when “The Greatest” Boxer of All Time served as the Chairman of the Board of Judges during one of his high-profile beauty pageants held at the famed Manila Hilton. Several decades way before the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight in Vegas, there was the Ali-Frazier Thrilla-in-Manila, considered the very first ‘Fight of the Century!’ And Tito Ferdie then was rubbing elbows during dinner with Muhammad Ali!

“She was my Miss Baron Travel Girl Winner,” he gushes to several decades-old photo of ABS-CBN Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer Charo Santos-Concio, together with a smiling Chief Operating Officer of ABS-CBN Global Raffy Lopez, with him wedged in the middle. "Who would ever imagine that the shy barrio lass from Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro will soon be the head of a major television company?" as he refers to Santos-Concio's giant career leap.

The whole cast of ABS-CBN’s noontime show of yesteryears, MTB posing closely with Tito Ferdie, adorn his wall leading to his private room, which includes the late Rico Yan (rest in peace), John Estrada, & Randy Santiago. The stories fade in and out with the photos. Apparently, he has to take down almost half of the photos to make way for the ‘newer’ ones. Hence, I see more ‘recent’ photos of Willie Revillame, Sarah Geronimo, Christian Bautista, Mark Bautista, Marian Rivera, Heart Evangelista, Dennis Trillo, Dingdong Dantes, Geoff Eigenmann, Jake Cuenca, Rafael Rosel, Zanjoe Marudo, Bea Alonzo and many more.

The colors may have faded in those photos but the memories stay fresh as the day it happened in his mind. Thank you for your legacy and unparalleled contribution to the entertainment community. May you have many, many more birthdays to celebrate ahead of you! Happy Birthday to you, Tito Ferdie!

ANTI-PIRACY NEWS

ABS-CBN shuts down more high-traffic pirate sites, warns consumers

to protect themselves from malware

REDWOOD SHORES, CA, June 11, 2015 - ABS-CBN Global announced recently that it has filed a lawsuit before the U.S. Federal District Court and received an ex parte order allowing it to take down several pirate sites and serve the owners of the sites with the company's pleadings placed on the sites. These sites, which had previously drawn considerable traffic, are as follows:

freepinoychannel.com

phstream.com

pinoytambayan-replay.com

pnoytambayantv.com

tambayanatin.com

tambaytayo.com

tvnijuan.net

streampinoy.info

lambingan.to

pinoymovie.to

pinoynetwork.to

These latest developments in ABS-CBN's anti-piracy efforts come on the heels of its successful partnership with the Dubai Department of Economic Development & Intellectual Property Rights Section to stop online piracy of the Mayweather-Pacquiao world championship welterweight match in the Middle East last May 2 and the arrest in Bataan, Philippines last April of Jonathan Dela Cruz, creator of http://pinoy-tv-replay.com, done in partnership with the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG).

Dela Cruz had allegedly created a website that illegally replays movies, various television series, news and other programs of ABS-CBN and other TV networks. On the same site, he has reportedly started collecting subscription fees for the livestreaming of the Mayweather-Pacquiao mega-fight which he allegedly planned to pirate from ABS-CBN. He was in jail for over 30 days and now faces criminal charges and damages of over US$6 million from a US federal lawsuit. ABS-CBN's Assistant Vice President of Global Anti-Piracy, Elisha Lawrence said that ABS-CBN will pursue cases against pirates such as Jonathan Dela Cruz and will continue to work on shutting down illegal sites. "We are enforcing against these sites to protect our viewers. But in the meantime as we go after each and every one of these sites, protect yourself and your family and stay away from free sites and free streaming sites. There have been numerous reports of malware on these free sites, which infect viewers' computers allowing hackers to invade people's computers and steal personal and financial information. Don't pay a high price for free," Lawrence said.
