Clash of the Titans

(Mayweather calls Pacquaio a midget, a whore and a chump;

Claudine, Angelica threatens each other lawsuits)

It must have been the hot August/September transition weather that’s causing massive rifts among the biggest names in sports and entertainment that’s even crossing continental boundaries.

Just last week, there was Floyd Mayweather, Jr. calling Manny Pacquiao a midget, a whore, a chump, among other things. And then over at the Star Magic kingdom, there’s Angelica Panganiban serving her former BFF and former co-Star Magic artist Claudine Baretto (she’s now with rival station, GMA 7) a demand letter of apology or else.

Pacquiao (listed # 25 in Yahoo’s Most Influential in Boxing History) is in the middle of his US press tour promoting his November 13 Dallas fight with Antonio Margarito, but all he get from the media men are questions about Mayweather (# 70 in Yahoo’s Most Influential in Boxing History). “He needs me” is all Pacquiao has to say to the reporters. And then, Mayweather appeared on livestream video calling Pacquiao (the “Boxer of the Decade” and presently a very active Congressman in the Philippines) a “whore,” a “little yellow chump” and a “midget” several times. It outraged the sportsmen, the Filipinos and also some major Mayweather sponsors. No major, major comment was quoted of the People’s Champ as he’s focusing his efforts towards his Margarito bout.

In response, the National Federation of of Filipino American Associations (NAFFAA) issued a strongly-worded statement, to wit:

We are outraged by Mayweather’s racially offensive remarks. This disgusting diatribe against Pacqiuao is a racial slur against all Filipinos and Filipino Americans and an embarrassment not only to the boxing community but to all Americans. Talking trash may be common between boxing rivals, but Mayweather’s racially-laced profanities brazenly crossed the line of decency and respectability. Pacquiao, on the other hand, has taken the high road and acted like the gentleman that he is.

We call on the National Boxing Association and state athletic commissions to censure Mayweather for behavior that is both abhorrent and demeaning to boxing fans and to the whole world of sports. We also call on the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to reprimand the boxing star for insulting people of color. We are further asking all civil rights organizations to stand in solidarity with us in denouncing this racist and homophobic rant. Mayweather’s apology is unacceptable and he must be made accountable for his damaging statements.

At a time when immigrant communities are being viewed with increasing suspicion and mistrust, Mayweather’s cruel, abusive and hurtful remarks can only stoke more hostility, derision and resentment against individuals who look foreign by virtue of their looks, their size or the sound of their names. Coming from a boxing celebrity with millions of fans around the world, Mayweather’s shameless and reckless conduct unfairly paints an entire racial and ethnic group with a broad brush and seriously undermines America’s core values of inclusivity and racial tolerance.”

Latest updates – Mayweather issued an apology in video format complete with “Asian” girls as props. Will it appease his victims? That is left to be seen.

Meanwhile, Star Magic’s very controversial sexy star these days, Angelica Panganiban and her legal team is all geared up for the upcoming battle (she just served Claudine a demand letter of apology) and is slated to appear this Sunday, September 12 from 10am to 7pm on “One Kapamilya Go” at the CA Great America Park in Santa Clara, CA together with the whole cast of the top-rated wacky talent show, “Showtime”, Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson, Pooh, singing sensations Bugoy Drilon & Jovit Baldivino, and superstar dance crew Jabbawockeez.

In addition, you will enjoy the park's thrills and attractions, Starry Starry Store tiangge, Pinoy food booths (New York Life’s Greater San Francisco Agents will be participating), FREE film screenings and MYX's talent showcase (center of major activities will be the Redwood Amphitheatre).

See you all at the CA Great America Park and enjoy the rest of the summer this Sunday!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“The only reason Angelica has not come out to defend herself against Claudine’s accusations is because what she has to say would be so compelling and devastating to Claudine’s career. That is why she has chosen the path of silence. Angelica still has compassion for Claudine and rejects all the falsehoods attributed to her.” by Johnny Manahan, or simply “Mr. M” to Angelica Panganiban and his former talent – Claudine Baretto, commenting on the former’s silence on all the issues hurled at her by Claudine.
