for “Padala ng Pag-asa” promo

Partnership to benefit less fortunate children in the Philippines throughBantay Bata

REDWOOD CITY, CA– StarKargo, ABS-CBN International’s one-stop shop for all door-to-door shipment needs from the U.S. to the Philippines, and ABS-CBN Foundation USA has entered recently into a partnership for their “Padala ng Pag-asa” promo. For every box that StarKargo ships from June 15 until July 31, 2009, StarKargo will donate $.50 to Bantay Bata, a child welfare program of ABS-CBN Foundation that rescues and rehabilitates abused, sick, abandoned and neglected children in the Philippines.

“It’s all about spreading the love and care that goes with everybalikbayan box,” said Pia Palpal-Latoc, ABS-CBN International’s Padala Group product manager. “Our customers work hard to be able to send boxes of goodies and necessities to their loved ones in the Philippines. At StarKargo’s cost, we make each balikbayan box shipment help more people by donating a portion of each transaction to the less fortunate children being rehabilitated by Bantay Bata.”

“These are difficult times which make our work to support the communities that we serve even more important,” said Mitos Santisteban, president of ABS-CBN Foundation USA. “This partnership with StarKargo is a reinforcement of ABS-CBN’s commitment to giving back in good times and in bad.

Bantay Bata not only rescues abused and sick children, but also provides shelter, therapy and quality home care until they can be reunited with their families or referred to proper child-caring agencies. It also gives emphasis on the family through the following services: training and advocacy on child abuse prevention, rehabilitation of families in crisis, educational scholarships, livelihood, community outreach and dental missions.

With its dependable service, competitive rates and prompt delivery, StarKargo has been winning loyal customers. Starting its operations a few years ago in California, Nevada, Illinois, Virginia and Florida, it has grown and expanded to Washington State, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Kansas, Hawaii, New York, New Jersey, Arizona and Texas.

TO-BE-SEEN IN THE CITY

SINGER DIVO BAYER – LARGER THAN LIFE

“Summer Night of Music with Divo” show on August 8 is poised to be absolute vocal showdown

Divo Bayer, also known as “Emperor of Soul” is set to perform in a special show dubbed as “Summer Night of Music with Divo” on August 8, 2009, Saturday, 7pm at the South San Francisco High School Auditorium. This will serve as his first major stint in the Bay area since his several rounds of the different clubs and karaoke lounges inNorthern California that paved the way for a demand for a show that will launch( or shall we say re-launch) him as the next hottest singing sensation in the Filipino-American concert scene in California. To perform with Divo in this eventful musical event are male balladeerArnel Rosanes, sultry singer Sage, R & B male performer,Christopher Bibra and teen singing sensation Arianna(watch out, Charice Pempengco!).

Divo may have been better known as that dusky but chinky-eyed contestant of Star Quest singing contest in a noon variety show in the Kapamilya station who hit Manila airwaves via the song “Ngayong Nandito Ka.” His song was so popular that it inspired the Kristine Hermosa-Jericho Rosales movie of the same title. But his going to the United States and performing all over Los Angeles and the Bay Area took a toll on his music career in Manila for he had to start from scratch as what usually happens to celebrities who would leave their career in Manila and would try their life in the US. Undaunted by this challenge,Divo Bayer, Roland Diana in real life took the challenge and made the rounds of small lounges and Filipino community events. Slowly his hard work is paying off as more and more people are starting to recognize her soulful, raspy voice that never fails to mesmerize his audience every time he belts a song with bravura rendition. Divo’s gritty but surprisingly soulful version of a music from the play Turandot entitled “Nessun Dorma” would always leave people in the crowd enthralled and requesting for more. But his prominent talent to whistle-sing is best demonstrated with his own version of Lani Misalucha’s hit “Bukas na Lang Kita Mamahalin.”

Divo Bayer hails from the city of Olongapo and he worked as marketing assistant for Duty Free Philippines and also as a casino dealer. After a few TV exposures, he became a household name because of his very distinctive voice and he charmed most of the female audience in the live studio and the TV viewers.

Divo Bayer’s chance to international recognition came when he joined the Shanghai Song Festival in November 2003 and he was named as the best male performer of the said competition. His influences in music are Luther Vandross, Michael Bolton and James Ingram. However, he would always dream of becoming an opera singer likeAndrea Bocelli but was never given the chance in his career as a balladeer since he became popular singing Tagalog love songs and his advisers thought that he would alienate his fans if he started singing classical music.

“A Summer Night of Music with Divo” is slated on August 8, 7pm at the South San Francisco High School Auditorium with address at 400 B Street, South San Francisco, CA (close to Tanforan mall). Tickets are available at $25, $20 and $15. For inquiries, please call Tessie Labitoria at (415) 504-4837, Ric Quintana at (650) 771-7121 and Noel Nuguit at (408) 772-3922.
