CANNES BEST ACTRESS JACLYN JOSE: UP CLOSE & PERSONAL

SEEN IN THE CITY:

(MANILA) – Just a day after winning the history-making Best Actress at the 69thCannes Film Festival held in Southern France, Kapuso star Jaclyn Jose (who appears in The Millionaire’s Wife), the very first Filipina Best Actress (and also the first from Southeast Asia!) at Cannes Film Festival jetted to Manila and went straight to the 17th Floor of the GMA Network’s Main Building last Tuesday, May 24, 2016 to face a grand welcome celebration prepared for her by her home network.

Manila Mail’s Scenes In The City was initially invited to the grand launch of their new comedy TV show, “A1 Ko Sa ‘Yo” which coincidentally stars Jaclyn together with Roi Vinzon, Gardo Versoza, Benjamin Alves, Ervic Vijandre, among others when it was announced the early Monday morning (may 23rd, Manila time) that Jaclyn won!

Immediately, Filipinos all over the world celebrated with Kapuso star Jaclyn Jose as she bested Charlize Theron, Marion Cotillard, among other heavyweights for the Best Actress Award at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. GMA Network cannot help it but adjust to all the hoopla surrounding the return of Jaclyn in the Philippines right after the festival win.

Even the French Embassy congratulated her during the 21st French Film Festival held in Manila on May 26th. “We would like to congratulate the Philippines once again for making its mark internationally,” Laurent Legodec, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of France said, per Inquirer.net. “Not only did Brillante Mendoza participate once again in the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival with his film, “Ma’ Rosa,” but for the first time, an actress from the Philippines – and I could say an actress from Southeast Asia – was named Best Actress. We are really pleased to congratulate Ms Jaclyn Jose for receiving this honor.”

The award came as a shock to Jaclyn, who is among the Philippines’ most respected actresses. The star, who has walked down numerous red carpets, was visibly stunned when her name was announced. “I am so surprised. I just went to have the red carpet walk with my daughter, my real-life daughter and my daughter in the movie also,” she said as she received the award on stage. “To Cannes, thank you so much, thank you to the Jury, thank you that you liked our film!”

While it was not her first Cannes experience, Jaclyn says it was even more significant because she got to share the experience with her daughter and co-star in the movie, Andi Eigenmann.

“I would also like to share this recognition to all the Filipinos who are here now, to my daughter, to Brillante (director), to my countrymen, to the Philippines. Thank you, Mr. President, thank you to all the jury. Thank you so much for loving our work. Thank you so much,” she said during her acceptance speech.

During the prescon, when asked by this Journalist to describe her ‘winning scene’ as most of the media and prescon audiences haven’t seen “Ma’ Rosa,” Jaclyn said the Festival jurors praised her performance saying she “broke everybody’s hearts” and she deserved the win. “Alam ko, in my heart, meron ako nagawa na mapapatinag ko ang damdamin nila [I know in my heart that I did a scene that would really move them],” she says of the film’s closing scene where she was seen eating fishballs (I can’t wait to see this scene!).

With the huge interest drummed up by her milestone win in the international scene, Jaclyn hopes that the local viewers will also have a chance to watch the film. “We’re hoping na mapanood ng mga tao ito para naman mapakinabangan yung essence ng pelikula [We’re hoping that people will be able to watch it so that we can benefit from the essence of the film],” she expresses.

Now that she is back in the country, Jaclyn is preparing to return to the small screen via the new sexy comedy series on GMA, A1 Ko Sa ‘Yo, where she plays the lead role of a tactless and frustrated beauty pageant aspirant and owner of A1 Talent Agency who is relentlessly in search of the perfect beauty queen.

Catch the light, funny and naughty series as it premieres on June 2 on GMA Network’s flagship international channel, GMA Pinoy TV.

Again, congratulations to Ms Jaclyn Jose for this extreme honor and making its mark internationally
