BINOY HENYO brings inspiration and love on GMA
As GMA Network celebrates its 63rd anniversary, another heartwarming TV fare will touch the hearts of Filipino viewers via the family drama series, BINOY HENYO.
Binoy Henyo features the ingenuity and craftsmanship of a genius boy who possesses a big and optimistic heart despite his struggles with poverty and his longing for a father figure in his life. The program takes us on a captivating and inspiring adventure that the whole family, most especially the moms and kids, can enjoy.
Binoy Henyo’s storyline teaches parents to raise their kids to be the best they can be while highlighting the importance of maintaining a strong parental involvement in every child’s learning and development. Hence, the program believes that an encouraging parent is every child’s greatest asset.
Sought-after Kapuso actress Sheena Halili, takes up the challenge on playing her first mother role in the series. Sheena, who has showcased her versatility in portraying character roles in various GMA programs including Indio, Tweets for My Sweet, Alice Bungisngis and Her Wonder Walis, Amaya, among others, dabbles in her most challenging role yet as Agnes, David’s uneducated mother who loves him unconditionally and will do anything to protect her child.
Sheena says she is grateful to GMA for continuously giving her good projects and for trusting her as she tackles a meaty role in Binoy Henyo, “Pinagkatiwala nila sa akin yung show na ito dahil naniniwala sila na kaya kong maging nanay, gusto kong talagang magampanan ito ng tama. Kaya ko tinanggap yung role na ito hindi lang para sa viewers, gusto kong may matutunan ang mga nanay na napaka-importante na habang lumalaki ang mga anak ay gabayan natin sila kung ano man ang pinagdaraanan nila. Kaya may puso talaga yung show.”
Sheena also shares that she observes her own mother while preparing for her role. “Ino-obserbahan ko siya. Pag malungkot ako, doble ang lungkot niya. Pag masaya ka, makikita mo yung glow sa mukha nila. So, iyon yung tinatandaan ko. And inaaral ko rin si David. I want to develop a relationship with David on and off screen. Pag nasa set ako, alam kong nanay na ako. Si David dapat makikinig or makikipaglaro siya sa akin, yung hindi na siya maiilang. Iyon yung ina-apply ko every taping. During the auditions, kay David ko naramdaman na yung iyak niya, tumatama sa akin. Hindi lang iyak lang. Kaya alam kong may potential yung bata, mamahalin siya. Kahit sa set, hindi namin kayang magalit sa kanya kahit makulit siya.”
Adding star power to the program is talented Kapuso actor Luis Alandy as Francis, Agnes’ boyfriend and David’s long lost father.
Fast-rising actress Gwen Zamora plays a vital role as Emily, Luis’ barren wife.
Joining the cast is one of Philippine Cinema’s highly-commended veteran actresses, Ms. Nova Villa as Chato, Agnes’ aunt.
And playing the coveted title role is Kapuso Network’s newest child discovery -- David Remo. The jolly personality, natural charisma and quick wit of this six-year-old boy is all set to charm audiences as he breathes life to the character of Binoy. The series is David’s first television project, but he has already appeared in numerous commercial endorsements. At present, David balances his time between work and school as a Grade 1 pupil in La Salle Greenhills.
Completing the all-star cast are Rich Asuncion as Josie, Binoy’s teacher; Lorenzo “Tata” Mara as Alfredo, Francis’ father;Frencheska Farr as Sandy, Emily’s scheming cousin; Gene Padillaas Chairman Domeng, Agnes’ suitor; Lucho Ayala as Jaime, Francis’ younger brother; Ervic Vijandre as Lito, Len-Len’s older brother; Angel Satsumi as Len-Len, Binoy’s bestfriend; Zyrel Jestre as Botchok, Chairman Domeng’s son.
In the series, viewers will witness how Binoy, regardless of being mischievous and playful, will be able to inspire and touch the lives of the people around him. His innate creativity, wild imagination and genuine curiosity will lead him to invent and do things that will help the people he loved. Despite all the problems he is encountering, Binoy will never lose hope to be reunited with his father.
On the other hand, Agnes will single-handedly raise Binoy to become a respectful, smart, and loving boy. In spite of her personal hardships and her struggles of not being able to read and write, she will strive to learn and get an education as she works hard to make ends meet just to give Binoy a good life.
Under the helm of Director Albert Langitan, Binoy Henyo is created by the GMA Drama group headed by Lilybeth G. Rasonable, Officer-in-charge for Entertainment TV; Ma. Regina Magno, Vice President for Drama; Cheryl Ching-Sy, Assistant Vice President for Drama; Camille Hermoso, Program Manager and Winnie Hollis-Reyes, Executive Producer.
The creative team is composed of Creative Director, Jun Lana; Creative Head, Jake Tordesillas; Creative Consultant, Aloy Adlawan; and Headwriter, Marlon Miguel.
The exciting adventures of Binoy Henyo begin July 23 on GMA PinoyTV. GMA Pinoy TV, the flagship international channel of the GMA Network, can be seen in the US and in countries in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Asia Pacific. SUNDANCE AWARD WINNING FILM “BLOOD BROTHER”
GETS MULTI LAYERED DISTRIBUTION
TUGG, INC., ITVS, INDEPENDENT LENS, MONGREL MEDIA AND CINEDIGM
PARTNER TO RELEASE SUNDANCE AUDIENCE AWARD/GRAND JURY PRIZE DOCU
ON MULTIPLE PLATFORMS IN NORTH AMERICA
PROCEEDS FROM THE RELEASE WILL GO TO SUPPORT THE WORK
AT THE ORPHANAGE IN INDIA AND OTHER HIV/AIDS INITIATIVES
Los Angeles, CA August 6, 2013 Director Steve Hoover announced today that his Sundance Award winning film, BLOOD BROTHER, has been picked up for distribution. Hoover, along with his producing partner Danny Yourd, recently closed deals for theatrical, broadcast and digital exhibitions in North America.
“We are excited about this partnership,” states director Hoover. “Each of the players bring something significantly unique to the table and are important in reaching the widest audiences possible.”
BLOOD BROTHER is an intimate portrait of Rocky Braat, an American graphic designer who stumbled upon an HIV orphanage in India and left all that he had to create family with the kids. Though he never set out to be a humanitarian, his dedication proves genuine in this moving film from Rocky's best friend, director Steve Hoover.
"I made BLOOD BROTHER simply to tell the story of my good friend," says Hoover. "When he told me he was moving to India, it didn’t make sense to me, at least not right away. I was inspired to tell his story because I know him. I know he isn’t a saint or a miracle worker, but every day he fights his own nature and the forces arrayed against him, and I think that maybe this story could inspire others, as well."
BLOOD BROTHER television broadcast rights have been acquired by ITVS for Independent Lens. Cinedigm has the rights for DVD and digital distribution. And Mongrel Media will release the film in theaters in Canada. Proceeds from the film have been designated to support the orphanage and Rocky’s work in Tamil Nadu.
“We look forward to sharing Rocky’s powerful story with everyone,” adds producer Yourd. “And we are hopeful that the film can provide the support needed for Rocky’s work with the children.”
All distribution deals were negotiated on behalf of the filmmakers by Kevin Iwashina and Abby Davis of Preferred Content, and Liesl Copland and Deborah McIntosh of WME Global.
BLOOD BROTHER had its world premiere at Sundance 2013, where it won the US Documentary Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award. It will be released in theaters in October 2013 and will have its television premiere on Independent Lens/PBS in January 2014.

Synopsis: At JFK High School, located in the midst of a run-down area in Newark, New Jersey, the nation’s 10th poorest city, administrators answer the phone by saying, “You’ve reached John F. Kennedy High School, Newark’s Best Kept Secret.” And indeed, it is. JFK is a public school for all types of students with special education needs, ranging from those on the autism spectrum to those with multiple disabilities. Janet Mino has taught her class of young autistic men for four years. When they all graduate in the spring of 2012, they will leave the security of the public school system forever. Best Kept Secret follows Ms. Mino and her students over the year and a half before graduation. The clock is ticking to find them a place in the adult world – a job or rare placement in a recreational center - so they do not end up where their predecessors have, sitting at home, institutionalized, or on the streets.
Best Kept Secret has received support from advocates (including New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez, who is featured in the film and recently introduced legislation in Congress inspired by the film) who are concerned about the social and public policy implications when autistic kids "age out". It's an issue families, teachers/school systems and government officials are dealing with in communities across the nation. Newark Mayor Cory Booker recently visited the school and met the film subjects and filmmakers.Filmmaker Statement by Director Samantha Buck:
The first question I get about Best Kept Secret is usually, "What is your personal relationship to autism?" Until making this film, I always thought the answer was, "None." What I learned is that we are all connected to it. Autism is part of who we are as a society. Across the country young adults who turn 21 are pushed out of the school system. They often end up with nowhere to go; they simply disappear from productive society. This is what educators call "Falling off the cliff."
While I was on the festival circuit with my last feature documentary I saw many films about young children with autism. These films were moving and important, but they only spoke of a limited population - predominately White and financially stable. But what happens to children with autism who grow up in less fortunate circumstances? I began to research public schools in inner city areas all over and the best kind of accident of fate brought me to JFK and Janet Mino - a force of nature who changed my life. She has been a constant reminder to have faith, value every member of society, and believe in people’s potential.
While Best Kept Secret may not help all of our boys, I hope it will pave the road for better options for the young men and women who come after them. I want the same thing for the young people depicted in this film as I want for any young person, a chance at a good quality of life and a bright future.
