FILIPINO-AUSTRIAN

WINS THE VOICE KIDS

GERMANY

SEEN IN THE CITY:

(SAN FRANCISCO) – Thirteen-year-old Filipino-Austrian Lukas Janisch was declared the grand winner of “The Voice Kids Germany” last Friday, March 25, 2016, who got the judges’ votes (and standing ovation!) with his husky yet soulful voice and performance of Alicia Keys’ “If I Aint Got You” and Adele’s “When We Were Young” while he was playing the piano and wearing a Bruno Mars signature hat.

The Voice prides itself as a singing contest where judges turn around to contestants they deem to have the voice, not the looks primarily. During his blind auditions, the confident teenager already got the judges fighting over him after performing Alicia Keys’ “Fallin” while also playing the piano. Lukas chose Mark Forster to be his coach over Lena Meyer-Landrut (she pushed her button only after hearing the first bars of his song!) and Sasha Alexander.

Lukas, in his YouTube interviews, narrated to growing up singing karaoke with his mother. He has a younger sister, as shown in his interviews (reminds me of Filipino-Canadian Darren Espanto, The Voice Kids Philippines Top 2 Winner who had 2 nights of very successful concert at Pechanga Casino last March 26-27, 2016 with Piolo Pascual, Sam Milby and Pokwang). He defeated remaining finalists Shanice and Ridon.

After the finals, his coach, Mark Foster, posted this message on his Instagram account: "Öööhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! Völlig verdienter Gewinner Lukas!!!! #teammark #gewinnerteam," Translation: Well-deserved winner Lukas!!

Lukas’ prizes include 15,000 euros worth of training and recording contract. His family lives in Fürstenfeld, Austria but her mother hails from Palompon town in Southern Leyte, according to a published Manila Bulletin article.

It will be just a matter of time before Lukas hits the local TV shows in the Philippines, as with the past winners of international singing contests customarily did.

Congratulations, Lukas!
