THE 4THPLARIDEL AWARD WINNERS ARE…

TO-B-SEEN IN THE CITY

(SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA) – Who will win this year’s Plaridel Awards? As of press time, Philippine American Press Club (PAPC) Prexy Esther Misa Chavez says “this year’s batch is a tough one as there are several outstanding entry submissions in all of the categories! It’s hard to choose the winners!” The announcement of finalists and eventual winners will happen on Thursday, October 8, 2015 starting at 6:30 PM (PDT) at Fort McKinley Restaurant, 101 Brentwood Drive, South San Francisco, CA 94080. Manila Mail Newspaper will be there – front and center to cover the event!

Given annually, The PAPC-USA Plaridel Awards started in 2012 which honors and celebrates the contribution of outstanding Filipino American journalists and photo-journalists as they chronicle the lives and times of the community, promote their ethnicity, champion their causes and provide a venue for their voices. The first set of winners include: Asian Journal’s Michael Santos and Joseph Pimentel- Outstanding Reportage; Inquirer.net’s Dennis Clemente-Outstanding Commentary; Laurel Fantauzzo- Youth Voice; Philippine News’ Hollywood entertainment reporter, Janet Nepales– Entertainment; Philippine News’ Cherie Querol Moreno-Outstanding International Reporting; Jannell So of Kababayan LA- For the Broadcast Category’s Community Reporting in Television; Ruben Nepales of Balikbayan Magazine- Tourism Feature Story Photo Journalism Category.

The Plaridel Award is named after one of the most recognizable Philippine heroes, Marcelo H. del Pilar – a native of Bulacan, Editor and Publisher of La Solidaridad and helped ignite nationalist sentiments, mainly through his 150 essays and 66 editorials published under the nom de plume Plaridel during the late 1800s, per Wikipedia.

Like Plaridel, the recipient of this award given by PAPC-USA must believe in the power of the pen, figuratively, translating it to responsible journalism that foster positive community values and promote outstanding achievement by Filipino Americans.

Per their website, the PAPC was established in 1988 and its members are media practitioners, including public relations and communications professionals, who banded together to foster camaraderie among its ranks and to create a strong united voice to support the community on relevant issues, having realized early on its inception the vital role of media education and advocacy for the fast growing Filipino population.

The public is invited to attend and applaud their favorite reporters, opinion writers, feature writers, photographers, videographers, editors and publishers and people they write about during the event. Tickets cost $45 with dinner can be purchased online: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-2015-plaridel-awards-tickets-12478281877
