(The Philippine International Aid Benefit Event is growing strong on its 26th year)

The much awaited fashion event of the year, Philippine International Aid’s (PIA) Holiday Haute Couture XI will feature the designs of Patis Tesoro, a famous designer from the Philippines, on Sunday, November 18, 2012 12:00 noon at the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Embarcadero located at 5 Embarcadero, San Francisco, CA.
This Columnist had attended and enjoyed a couple of PIA’s benefit fashion shows & auction events in the past that featured Designers Pitoy Moreno at the Saint Francis Hotel SF & Rene Salud at The Hilton SF. Inspired by “People Power” and success of the EDSA Revolution in 1986, PIA was founded by a group of Filipino-Americans in the U.S. headed by Mona Lisa Yuchengco (Lisa) to extend help to the children in the Philippines, according to their Facebook page.
Also, the Board of Directors and Officers of PIA consists of: Mona Lisa Yuchengco, Founder and Chair; James Tecson Lim, Executive Director; Dr. Agnes Y. Alikpala; Tomas L. Consunji; Sonia T. Delen, Secretary; Teddy Diaz De Rivera; Shirley B. Dimapilis; Eliza D. Duerme, Vice President; Susan Po Rufino; Eleanor C. Sebastian; Johann Yuzon; Leopoldo R. Briones, Treasurer.
Now on their 26th year, all event proceeds will benefit programs for disadvantaged children in the Philippines and in the San Francisco Bay Area. To-date, they have made life better for over 32,000 children, rescuing them from abuse, sending them to school, and more. Some of PIA’s most recent grant recepients are: Off the Streets - Off to School, Catholic Ministry to Deaf People, Alay Kapwa, Association Compassion Asian Youth, Inc., Kanlungan sa Er-Ma, Open Heart, Teaching Street Children to Love, Blessed Elena Academy, ECPAT (End Child Prostitution), Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes, Good Shepherd Sisters (Iligan), Child Alert Mindanao, Katilingban Para Sa Kambuan, Sacred Heart Chaplaincy, Bukid Kabataan, PIA/Wells Fargo Scholarship, among others.

A Giant Halloween Celebration this Wednesday
The San Francisco Giants won the Major League Baseball Championship World Series during last Sunday’s sweeping Game 4 against the Detroit Tigers. This is the 2nd time in 3 years that the Giants claimed the title. A huge celebration party befitting a Giant team is waiting for them on Halloween Wednesday when they return home, according to the tweet posted by no less than San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee. Congratulations, Giants!

“ABS-CBN International categorically takes exception to the inclusion of ABS-CBN StarKargo among the "blacklisted foreign principals and consolidators abroad due to reports of undelivered packages and other violations under Philippine Shippers Bureau ("PSB") Administrative Order No. 6 series or the Revised Rules on Freight Forwarding" (the " PSB Order") as stated in the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) News Release dated October 16, 2012.
On the matter of "undelivered packages", ABS-CBN International is not aware nor has been notified of any such incident pending before DTI-PSB.
On the issue of "violations": the PSB Order does not apply to ABS-CBN StarKargo since the PSB has no jurisdiction over ABS-CBN StarKargo, a business owned and operated by ABS-CBN International based in the U.S. To facilitate the delivery of the shipments of ABS-CBN StarKargo's customers to their relatives and friends in the Philippines, ABS-CBN International engaged the brokerage and freight forwarding services of Sky Land Brokerage, Inc. which is organized and existing under Philippine laws and is duly accredited by the PSB.
ABS-CBN International painstakingly built and maintained the reputation and goodwill of ABS-CBN StarKargo through many years of excellent service to thousands of satisfied customers. ABS-CBN International has been a consistent recipient of an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) in the U.S. since September 10, 1998. There being no clear basis for naming ABS-CBN StarKargo as a "blacklisted" company and "warning the public against engaging its services" as stated in the News Release, it has filed a letter to the DTI-PSB requesting for clarification and immediate removal of ABS-CBN StarKargo's name from the "blacklisted" entities to prevent further damage to its name.”
