SARAH & SARAH

IN HOT WATER

SEEN IN THE CITY

Sarah will get pregnant this year, so the showbiz soothsayers say. Problem is – there are 2 Sarahs both active and visible in the industry these days. So, which one?

There’s the Pop Superstar Sarah Geronimo who’s in a lot of news lately for crying and more crying, for nixing in the bud, a promising romantic relationship with Man of the Hour Gerald Anderson (who in turn, was spotted complete with Instagram photos at Misibis Bay Resort in Legaspi, Albay, one December weekend with Maja Salvador). Maja (whose ex-boyfriend is car racing and now triathlon enthusiast Matteo Guidicelli WAS Sarah Geronimo’s former suitor) is being supposedly a confidante and BFF with Kim Chiu, another ex-girlfriend of Gerald Anderson. This web of ex’s is getting muddier the more social media fantards talk about it every day with their online posts as evidenciary photos from Facebook and Instragram become easily accessible in today’s wired wired world. Even Sarah Geronimo’s mom is not spared from being entangled in all these mess, as she only does a good job of being ever protective of her Superstar daughter. The mom is being accused of firing all her daughter’s entourage – from her make up artist, to her stylist, to her driver to her road manager, which she vehemently denied. True or not, it was for a good reason, as it turned out.

And then, there’s Sarah Lahbati, the Grand Female Winner in the 5th edition of GMA’s Starstruck talent search, who is trying to bolt out of a messy managerial contract with GMA Network for reasons that involve unresolved issues involving her alleged “Indio” taping walk out that could cost her more or less 500,000 pesos (she could be forced to reimburse the network). She filed for a vacation leave to travel back to Switzerland where she was born and raised, to unwind and study. She claims she did not walk out but was approved to report to an overlapping Eat Bulaga’s early morning opening number commitment. And then there’s this issue with her signing with her boyfriend’s mother’s Royal Era Entertainment and Artists Management to avoid being forced by GMA Network to sign with ICONS, another management company being favored by the network bigwigs. She refused to be with ICONS because they are charging her additional 15% in commission – that’s on top of the 25% being deducted from her talent fees by GMA Artist Center, thereby making it 40% in total commission to be taken out of her pay check. She said no. Making us wonder, curiously, how much is Royal Era Entertainment and Artist Management deducting from her? It should be lower than 15%. Otherwise, what’s the point of not signing with ICONS when according to her allegations, she was promised projects and endorsements because of their influence and better connections.

According to GMA Network, which we quote verbatim, “the Network has endorsed the matter to Belo, Gozon, Elma, Parel, Asuncion and Lucila (BGE Law) for the filing of a complaint against Sarah so that the court may determine who between the parties is correct, telling the truth or lying.

After the complaint is filed in court, the Network will no longer publicly comment on the case except through the pleadings filed in court, in compliance with the rule on “sub-judice,” to avoid influencing the decision the court may render on the case.”

Sarah and Sarah in hot water, both. It will be interesting to note how this teleserye ends. Que sarah sarah.

ANATOMY OF AN ORGANIC GRASS-FED MEAT

by Bradford Adkins, MSCIS

(CHICO, CA) Whole Foods Market, the world’s largest retailer of natural and organic food for healthy families of today, together with their Rancher Partners at Panorama Grass-Fed Meats and selected Journalists, embarked on an immersion tour of the cattle meat growing process up in the northern part of California. The goal is to disseminate information to people the “how” and the “why” of growing healthy chemical-free and humanely-bred cattle, in a sustainable environment, from the time the calves were born up to their final destination – the supermarkets.

The educational trip up to the north took two days, altogether. The first day involved mainly the getting to know each other and bonding phase among the members of the immersion team (numbering about 20), our backgrounds, our eating preferences, our work, among others things. It is during the bonding time dinner, organized by Lori Carrion, Chief Executive Officer of Panorama Grass-Fed Meats that we come to know that the average life span of a cow is about eighteen (18) months. We met the other Panorama Ranchers - Darrell Wood, President, Dennis Wood (brother of Darrell), Dan Neuerburg, Janet Rabo, John Delleft and Daalice Wood. The representatives from the different location stores of Whole Foods Market - Alexia Case, Liz Rowland and Tricia Wong. The journalists - Catarina Lai, Jean Ho, Bryan Ho, Philippine News’ Richard Lao and this Columnist.

The second day is where the actual education happened. We each took a combined golf cart/jeepney type vehicle in sets of twos and drove the trek of acres of grassland where the cattle grazes from birth. Yes, we actually saw hundreds of cows, feeding from the naturally grown grass, systematically irrigated by the waters gathered from the rain and the manually-constructed deep well. We all saw the cattle, from their newly born calves up to the mature ones. Darrel Wood, President of Panorama Grass-Fed Meats indicated that part of the reason how they keep their cattle healthy is they have an excellent vaccination program. They give them vaccine shots, like the flu shots on humans, ahead of time so they don’t catch cold and flu. The vaccines keep them from getting sick all year round. Another aspect of ensuring the cattle healthy is proper nutrition. They give the cattle vitamins and minerals that keep them healthy to help them digest food better and fight internal and external parasites. It also helps the animals maintain their natural immune system.

Another benefit of growing cattle and selling them locally, aside from keeping the meat fresher, is its positive impact to the preservation of the environment. Panorama Grass-Fed Meats have eighteen (18) 100 % grass-fed organic ranches in Northern California. In addition, they have a USDA-Certified Organic Processing in Merced, CA. They are big enough to supply a string of Whole Food Market stores in the area. And, why is this important? Our research indicates that grass-fed organic beef used to be imported all the way from Uruguay for chemical-free, humanely-raised beef. But factoring the ill effects of long-distance shipping of the meat from Uruguay – the carbon print effects, known and unknown risk exposures and all, led to legislation that ranchers are now required to label unprocessed meat with the country of origin. It pays to grow and sell cattle locally.

We are what we eat. If we eat healthy organic chemical-free meat, we are staying healthy and chances are, we will live longer.

It is definitely an enlightening experience, joining this trip and knowing the “hows and whys” of Whole Foods Market partnering and forging relationships with local farmers and ranchers to provide healthy grass-fed meat for public’s healthy eating. And for those who haven’t, isn’t it time to transition to a healthier lifestyle?

Journalists, ranchers from Panorama Meats (headed by Darrell Wood, President) and Whole Foods Markets staff jointly tour the acres of grassland where cows roam freely in their natural habitat across Chico, CA.

Panorama Ranchers: Darrell Wood, Lori Carrion (President and Chief Executive Officer of Panorama Meats, respectively) Dennis Wood (brother of Darrell), Dan Neuerburg, Janet Rabo, John Delleft and Daalice Wood.

Whole Foods Market's Alexia Case, Liz Rowland and Tricia Wong.

Journalists: Catarina Lai, Jean Ho, Bryan Ho and Philippine News' Bradford Adkins and Richard Lao (not in photo).

GMA leads all stations in 2012 nationwide TV ratings

Keeps nationwide ratings advantage for the second straight year

Broadcast giant GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) ended 2012 on a positive note, leading other local free-to-air channels in full year nationwide TV ratings for the second consecutive year, according to data from the industry’s leading ratings service provider, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

GMA overtook its closest rival ABS-CBN in National Urban TV Audience Measurement (NUTAM) in January 2011, and has since sustained nationwide ratings leadership.

For the period January to December 2012 (December 16 to 31 based on overnight data), GMA scored an average total day household audience share of 34.4 percent, outscoring ABS-CBN’s 31.5 percent by 2.9 points, and TV5’s 15.1 percent by 19.3 points.

GMA’s lead in overall nationwide ratings was driven mainly by its strong ratings performance in the afternoon block, where it led competition by significant margins. In addition, GMA was also ahead of the other networks in the morning block.

GMA also led across all dayparts for the second straight year in the important areas of Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, which make up 77 and 59.5 percent of the total urban television households nationwide, respectively.

In Urban Luzon, GMA ruled over rival stations with a 38.2 percent average total day household audience share, ahead by 10.8 points over ABS-CBN’s 27.4 percent and by 23.6 points over TV5’s 14.6 percent average.

GMA also ended the year strongly in its bailiwick Mega Manila with an average total day household audience share of 39.2 percent, up 13.4 points over ABS-CBN’s 25.8 percent and ahead by 24 points over TV5’s 15.2 percent.

The GMA airing of the Pacquiao-Marquez 4 and Pacquiao-Bradley fights emerged as the top two most watched programs in 2012 across NUTAM, Urban Luzon and Mega Manila.

Other top performing programs of GMA last year were the Survivor Philippines Celebrity Doubles Showdown Finale, which ranked third in the over-all list in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho, Amaya, Munting Heredera, Eat Bulaga, 24 Oras, Biritera, Legacy, Luna Blanca, My Beloved, One True Love, Makapiling Kang Muli, Kapuso Movie Night Pinoy Flicks, Aso ni San Roque, Kapuso Movie Night, Naglalayag (Holy Week Special) and Pepito Manaloto.

This 2013, GMA is all set to roll out its new line-up of programs starting off with the fantasy drama Indio, the Network’s most expensive drama program to date, this January. Indio is topbilled by Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr. and features some of the Network’s biggest stars.

Among the new entertainment programs that will also be launched in January are the afternoon drama Forever starring Heart Evangelista, Geoff Eigenmann and Gloria Romero, and Manny Pacquiao’s new show, Para Sa’yo ang Laban na ‘to.

GMA subscribes to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement along with 22 other paying subscribers including another local major television network (TV5), Faulkner Media, CBN Asia, 15 advertising agencies, and 4 regional clients.

In Mega Manila, Nielsen has a sample size of 1,190 homes versus Kantar Media's 770 homes. Nationwide, Nielsen has a sample size of 2,000 homes compared to the lower sample size of 1,370 utilized by Kantar Media.

GMA’s top-ratings programs can be seen worldwide on its flagship international channel GMA Pinoy TV. For more details on the shows and how to subscribe, just visit www.gmanetwork.com/International and www.facebook.com/GMAPinoyTV. (30)
