MYX Launches Billboard Photo-BOMB Contest

Lone Asian American Music Entertainment and Lifestyle Channel Invites All on a MYX Billboard hunt in 40 Bay Area Locations

MYX®, the only music entertainment and lifestyle channel in the nation catering to Asian American youth, rings in the Chinese New Year with a fun contest for camera bugs with an eagle’s eye and a wicked sense of humor.

MYX® recently launched an outdoor campaign in over 40 locations and on over 100 buses plying strategic routes in the San Francisco Bay Area to announce its carriage on Comcast’s Digital Preferred Tier on Channel 368. To celebrate the launch and in keeping with the excitement for the Lunar New Year, the channel kicks off its MYX® Billboard Photo-BOMB Contest from March 1-12, 2010.

“I think all of us have ‘photobombed’ in our lives. We love hopping in a photo right before it is taken,” said MYX® Channel Head Miguel Santos with a laugh. “And since MYX® always wants to engage its core audience with everything it does, why not involve them and their creativity in our first major campaign of the year which is our billboard launch in the Bay Area?”

The contest idea is simple: Open to all ages 12 and up, contestants need to find a MYX® billboard or bus ad, take a picture of themselves in front of it, and then send the picture – including the location where it was sighted – to any of the following MYX® accounts: myx.tv on the web, myxtv on Twitter, andfacebook.com/myxtv on Facebook. MYX® will select randomly one winner every weekday within the 12-day duration of the campaign. Daily prizes include giveaways from renowned apparel brand Johnny Cupcakes and the Bay Area-based Upper Playground. A surprise grand prize awaits the last winner on March 12.

“We hope that this contest also brings MYX® to more people,” said Santos . “We want them to discover what MYX® has in store for them: relevant programming to the fast-growing Asian American youth population, shows that address the cultural reality that many of them want to reconnect to their roots, and a venue for independent American and Asian American music scene artists to showcase their world-class work.”

MYX® recently drew a lot of attention to the two new programs it launched early this year: Vinyl Addiction, which takes the audience to an up-close look at the Vinyl Toy Revolution, and Visual Crunch which goes behind the scenes of groundbreaking, creative music videos produced at impossibly low budgets – veritable video miracles at this age.

Bea Alonzo to Grace US Premieres of “Miss You Like Crazy”

(Long-awaited reunion of John Lloyd, Bea to premiere in LA, Honolulu this March)

While John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo scored major box-office triumphs in 2009 with other on-screen love interests – John Lloyd with Sarah Geronimo in You Changed My Life and Bea with Sam Milby in And I Love You So – their legion of fans missed seeing their phenomenal loveteam in a movie for almost three years.

This March, the celebrated on-screen couple reunites in a major way with Star Cinema’s latest romance drama, Miss You Like Crazy. Fans in the U.S. will be delighted to know that Bea will be gracing the movie’s premieres in Los Angeles on March 12 and in Honolulu on March 14.

“Regalo namin ito sa mga fans namin (This is our gift to our fans),” says Bea, whose last film team-up with John Lloyd was One More Chance that earned for them the titles of Box Office King and Queen for 2007. The film not only boosted the couple’s Philippine fan base but also strengthened their global following, making them the top love team among Filipino audiences all over the world.

Yet fans should be ready for a different John Lloyd and Bea in Miss You Like Crazy. The two actors have been exercising their acting chops playing more mature roles and complex, conflicted characters. In Miss You Like Crazy, John Lloyd plays the role of Allan, a man on top of his game professionally and enjoying a stable relationship with his dream girl, Daphne (played by rising star Maricar Reyes). Bea breathes life to the character of Mia, a Filipina front desk officer working in Kuala Lumpur who is looking for a change in what seems to be a forlorn life. Two individuals with seemingly predestined lives suddenly find their paths crossing on a ferry boat ride that will change the course of their journeys forever.

The film has been described as an “imperfect love story”: finding your perfect match at an imperfect time of your life. At the helm of this highly anticipated John Lloyd-Bea reunion is no less than Cathy Garcia-Molina who directed One More Chance and scored back-to-back hits herself with John Lloyd and Sarah Geronimo in A Very Special Love and You Changed My Life. The director revealed that 60 percent of the movie was shot in Malaysia . For Miss You Like Crazy, Erik Santos sings the theme song and 90’s hit of the same title.

“For this on-screen comeback of John Lloyd and Bea, we are aware that fans have high expectations. So, Star Cinema made sure to come up with a film that’s worth the wait,” said Kerwin Du, ABS-CBN International’s Head of Theatricals. “After delighting thousands of Filipino moviegoers here with Paano Na Kaya, giving them a first taste of ‘Kimerald’ flavor (Kim Chiu-Gerald Anderson), we bring back the John Lloyd-Bea magic with Miss You Like Crazy.”

All Philippine High School Students to Study Castillan

Every High School student in the Philippines will study Castilian language –as foreign language- and Spanish culture, per the agreement reached by the Ministry of Education of the Philippines , the Spanish Ministry of Education, the Instituto Cervantes and the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation and Development.

As part of the “Spain-Philippines 5th Tribune”, inaugurated in Barcelona recently, the Philippine Education Minister, Jesli A. Lapus, explained that this initiative is "very important" to the society of the Philippine Republic, but stressed that it will be of a especially important high value to the economy of the country.

The agreement foresees a pilot phase of introducing the study of Spanish in 15 Secondary schools, which will benefit about 1,000 students, and a subsequent expansion phase of the program extending the initiative to other 50 schools - 8,000 pupils -. By 2012 the system will be expanded to all schools.

The Spanish language currently holds the status of “voluntary and optional” in the Philippine educational system. However, the director of Instituto Cervantes, Carmen Caffarel, expressed her wish that the Castilian language become a co-official language in the country.

She argued that the number of students interested in the official language of the former Spanish colony (The Philippines), keeps growing more and more. In this regard, the director of AECI, Carlos Alberdi, mentioned the contributions of the Philippine National Hero, José Rizal; he asked that his value be also taken into account as “one of the best authors” in XIX Century Castilian.

The Ministry of Education (Spain) was represented by the General Director of International Relations, Jose Manuel Martinez, who emphasized the "seriousness, soundness and structure" of the agreement with Philippines.

For more comprehensive updates, timeline and information on this initiative originating from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's visit to Madrid in December 2007, please enter "Estatus Castellano de vuelta a Filipinas" in Google or in your preferred search engine.
