Malou Hipolito of San Rafael is celebrating her birthday on Jan 12th, shown here with fiancee, Chris Bailey.

He has numerous years of previous working relationships with alot of mainstream fashion industry models, designers and other professionals.

It's huge, it's mainstream and it's Pinoy-produced and directed - the Bridal Wedding FaireExtravaganza 2010 at the Santa Clara Convention Center this weekend - Jan 9th & 10th.

Bridal Wedding Faire Extravaganza

in Santa Clara this Weekend

Fashion Show Segment Being Produced by Filipino, Eddie Cotillon

Getting married this year? The very first step in planning your life’s most memorable event is attending a wedding expo/faire. And what do you know, there’s one coming up right in your backyard. The Bridal Wedding Faire Extravaganza 2010 happening at the Santa Clara Convention Center this weekend – January 9 and 10, 2010.

The Wedding Faire has been coming to the Santa Clara Convention Center since 1986. Every January & July, Brides can shop, watch fabulous fashion shows, listen to informational workshops and plan their weddings. The Wedding Faire offers 50,000 sq. ft. of everything to plan that Perfect Wedding! Over 100 local and national retailers and services will have booth displays.

Why am I writing about this? It’s because, the Bridal Wedding Faire Extravaganza’s Fashion Show segment’s director and producer is a Filipino and his name is Eddie Cotillon. He lives in San Jose , CA . It’s a very little known fact in the fashion industry that most of the mainstream fashion show’s main skeletal force are composed of Filipinos – from the make up artists to hairstylists to the designers up to the models. They excel so much in their own field of undertaking that their color and ethnic background has become invisible. And it’s not being written about that much.

Eddie Cotillon has been in the fashion industry for over two decades, can you eff’ing believe that? He went from a Fashion Photographer to Model Agent and to the Creative Director for fashion shows and events. Cotillon gives insight and tips for the brides and grooms to be, on how to select and shop for wedding dresses and tuxedos.

This promises to be one exciting event, as can be gauged from his recent FaceBook status updates, consisting mainly of his instructions to his models for this Saturday’s show, e.g., “To All Female Bridal Models Please Bring: Day of Rehearsals: Heels to Rehearsal "2-3" in height Day of Show 2 pairs of Fake Lashes(1 for each day) Selection of Heels: 1-2-3"(colors: clear, black, white) Make Up Base(Their own Foundation Base and Mascara) Hair Prep: Make Sure that their Hair is Blown Dry and Straighten ...the Morning of the Show Dates) Please give enough time for travel to arrive safely and on time. To ALL the casted Models of the Wedding Faire Bridal Shows this weekend. Rehearsal: Fri Jan 8th 6pm Sharp! (Arrive:5:45pm to check in) Show (Day 1) Saturday Jan 9th: 7:30am Sharp! Show (Day 2) Sunday Jan 10th: 8:00am Sharp! Please call Rachel(Model Coordinator for Further Questions on what to bring with you) Rachel 408-507-9181(call for her details).

This column wishes Filipino Fashion Professional, Eddie Cotillon, the best show ever this Saturday and beyond!

Manny Pacquiao – My ‘Newsmaker of the Year’

The year 2009 has been very good year for Filipinos with the emergence of CNN’s Hero of the Year, Efren Penaflorida, David Foster’s now-famous teenager friend, Charice, Journey’s Arnel Pineda, Ana ‘The Hurricane’ Julaton, among others.

But no doubt, the biggest of them all is our almost-a-national hero, Manny Pacquiao, who created tidal waves of news not only in the boxing world (having won 7 title belts in 7 different weight classes) but also beyond. He is the only boxer that made it to the cover of Time Magazine in 20 years (after Mike Tyson).

Before Christmas, he was voted and won as United States Sports Academy ’s Male Athlete of the year, beating Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, etc. But Pacquiao created bigger news when he did not win Associated Press’s Athlete of the Year Award (who instead decided to give it the NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson). Sportswriters and sports fans around the world loudly objected and protested.

He created bigger news anew when he agreed to fight Mayweather, Jr. on March 13th2010, tentatively set at the MGM Grand, his favorite ring. Before the New Year began, he shocked the whole world again by deciding not to adhere to his opponent’s caprices and not fight him and instead sue him and his cohorts for libel and defamation for creating talks that he uses performance-enhancing drugs. Pacquiao set the blogs and newspapers burning day after day after New Year’s day.

Up to this day, he is still making the whole world wait as he travels from his General Santos City residence to the Judge’s court sala in Santa Monica , CA to attend a mediation hearing that will make or unmake his March 13th fight with Mayweather.

These to me, are the marks of the Newsmaker of the Year.

The ‘Heartthrobs’ Are Back

Piolo Pascual’s December 19th intimate concert did not push through as previously announced but fret no more Piolo adiks. The show will not only headline Piolo, but will also include his equally papalicious-to-the-max co-starrers, Sam Milby and John Lloyd Cruz, together with Bea Alonzo, Tayong Dalawa’s Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, Pokwang and the ASAP Sessionista Balladeer, Richard Poon.

Free Aikido for Kids near San Bruno BART with lots of Free parking

What is Aikido? Aikido, which means "Way of Harmony," is a martial discipline based on samurai sword movements and developed by Morihei Ueshiba.

Aikido focuses on self-control and self-discipline instead of punching or kicking and winning or losing. Aikido is non-competitive. There are no competitions, contests, sparring, nor tournaments. There are no winners; there are no losers; there is no score; no one is keeping any score. Instead, Aikido techniques are learned cooperatively according to the pace and skill of each practitioner.

Aikido techiques emphasize redirecting and neutralizing the force of an attack, rather than inflicting harm. By moving in harmony, one is able to unbalance and apply various forms of controls and throws to defend oneself. The underlying defensive principles of Aikido make it ideal for the less physical to learn as a method of self defense.

Aikido is a powerful method of self protection that can be studied by men and women of all ages. In Aikido one defends oneself without hurting others. To attain such an ability one must achieve a certain level of mindfulness, physical fitness, and spirit. The basis of this unity is a harmonious combination of physical means and ethical motives. Thus, Aikido is not a sport.

Aikido is an excellent physical exercise and effective self-defense. Moreover, it teaches a philosophy that integrates physical, cultural, and spiritual values that can have a profound effect on one's everyday life. Aikido is for all, irrespective of age or gender.

A "dojo" is a place of study or practice. New students can start practicing Aikido at the Higirikan Dojo at any time.
