Are you serious? Manny Pacquiao, appearing here in the February, 2010 cover of The Ring Magazine (again, for the nth time) did not win 2009 'Newsmaker of the Year' conducted by ANC's online poll. He only placed 4th. ANC online voters, were you in a coma or dead in 2009 for not noticing all the gigantic news Pacquiao had created? No other Filipino comes close.

Karylle, last seen in the most-watched 'Dahil May Isang Ikaw' ABS-CBN teleserye, will perform also in Cache Creek Casino with Christian Bautistaon Feb 5 & 6 evenings.

Christian Bautista will sing love songs in a Pre-Valentine's concert at Cache Creek on Feb 5 & 6 nights.

Manny Pacquiao, Not 2009’s Newsmaker of the Year? What an Injustice!

It was announced that Oprah protégé and David Foster friend, 17-year old Charice, was named 2009’s Newsmaker of the Year, garnering 47% of the total votes in a poll conducted by ANC. She has beaten 4 other strong contenders, namely former president Corazon Aquino, CNN Hero of the Year Efren Peñaflorida, the King of Pop Michael Jackson and the People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao.

In the ANC poll, Manny Pacquiao placed 4th while Aquino got 32% (2nd place) followed by Peñaflorida (11%).

I beg to disagree, ANC online voters. Without belittling Charice’s achievements and other Filipinos’ in ANC’s nominations list, I believe and I am sure that a vast majority will agree, that no other Filipino had made the most garguantuan news in 2009 than Manny Pacquiao. No other Filipino comes close. Not in 2009. Not even in my lifetime, I think.

To all the online voters who did not vote Pacquiao, where were you in 2009 when Pacquiao made the cover to the prestigious Time Magazine, the only boxer after 20 years (Tyson was their last boxer cover). Were you in a coma when he knocked outBritish Ricky Hatton and Puerto Rico ’s Miguel Cotto on the same year, on the same city, on the same hotel venue, thereby making him the only human on boxing record to hold 7 titles in 7 different weight classes? Were you dead when he agreed in principle to fight Mayweather, Jr and sued him and his team before the year ended, creating Yahoo news buzz around the world (he was on top of the Yahoo search list everytime I open my browser)?

I can understand an international organization like the Associated Press not conferring the 2009 Athlete of the Year award to Pacquiao (despite all sportswriters’ protests) for several reasons I better not write. But not giving Pacquiao the ‘2009 Newsmaker of the Year’ recognition by a Filipino news organization, not only is demeaning to Pacquiao but is also huge injustice to all Filipinos.

I am sure Charice and even her mom, Racquel would agree that Pacquiao should get the 2009 Newsmaker of the Year recognition.

PERSONAL NOTES

Bon Voyage and good luck to student, Melissa Rodriguez who flew to London a week ago to pursue her further studies in drama and theater. She is the lovely daughter of Licensed Cosmetologist, Aesthetician and Hairstylist, Ms. Jolly Salonga-Rodriguez who calls Livermore home these days.

Quote of the Week “The true objective of war is peace," Pinoy Big Brother current frontrunner and a Cebuano self-made Millionaire, Jake Paul Castillo, reading and quoting from the book he was shown reading inside the house, The Art of War by Sun Tzu, during one of his social interactions with rivals-in-heart, waiter, Johan Santos and San Diego’s Hermes Bautista over now-evictee, Cathy Remperas. Yes, this show is more than just your reality-based TV show – it also offers very good lesson on how to survive out there socially in and out of the home/work environment, courtesy of the mixed intellects and interesting housemates they picked this season. The show wraps up and will produce its next of Big 4 winners, in 3 weeks, via a huge event in the Mall of Asiatimed for Valentine’s Day (will other frontrunners, General Santos City ’s funny girl Melissa Cantiveros and Jason win Top 1 and 2?). t is only being shown here in the US via online subscriptions to TFC’s 24/7 TFC NOW.
