Pacquiao Crushes Margarito

(Captures 8th Title in 8th Division)

( Arlington , TX ) Despite the height and weight disadvantage, Boxing icon, Manny ‘PacMan’ Pacquiaodominated Antonio Margarito (the Mexican was five inches taller and weighs 17 pounds heavier) landing 411 of 713 (or 58%, a boxing record) power punches last Saturday night in Arlington, TX, that rearranged his opponent’s face, breaking an eye socket so badly that the poor relentless fighter needed immediate surgery.

Pacquiao promised the boxing world an entertaining fight (a very un-Clottey one) and he delivered one. Only, a bloody entertaining one. The Filipino pride and Boxing Icon won all 12 rounds on the judges’ scorecards but in my personal book, he almost lost the fight when during Round 6, Margarito cornered him and flooded him with a barrage of left uppercuts and powerful punches in the rib cage area that caused Pacquiao massive pain (and loss of breath, he nearly collapsed on the ring canvass) on the Filipino, as captured and magnified by Dallas Cowboys Stadium’s several giant HD screens.

It was ugly (the fight and Margarito’s face disfiguration). It was violent (blood was all over HD TV screens). Yet, it was also record breaking. Pacquiao’s 474 punches landed # 8 all-time high in all title fights, according to CompuBox (where every punch counts, according to their tagline).

All 3 judges ruled unanimously in Pacquiao’s favor (120-108; 118-110 & 119-109).

Here is a summary of CompuBox Final Punch Statistics, below:

Mommy Dionisia Collapses In Dallas !

(As she watches in horror, Congressman son, Manny Pacquiao, rearrange in bloody fashion, Margarito’s face)

SEEN IN THE CITY

( Arlington , TX ) It was during the Post-Fight Media Conference in the helicopter landing pad area of the Dallas Cowboys Stadium that it has come to my attention, courtesy of Twitter post by famous Celebrity Beauty Doctor, Vicky Belo, that the mother of Manny Pacquiao collapsed (she reportedly suffered anxiety attack) in the midst of the watching the fight.

This columnist was barraged with questions from fellow media men from other publications, after asking the status of Mommy Dionisia from Bob Arum (he was unaware as of that time). Another ringside boxing fan was reported also to this columnist by another ringside attendee, John Manrique of Hayward , CA who collapsed towards the end of Round 12. For a bloody reason.

Antonio Margarito’s face was badly disfigured towards the last quarter of the fight, but still won’t let go. During the 12th round, Margarito’s eyes were reduced to just slits, so Pacquiao was noticeably hesitant to thrown anymore power punches. As a matter of fact, he was captured on camera, repeatedly signaling the referee to stop the fight to prevent further permanent damage on Margarito.

Pacquiao did not only break Margarito’s face. He also broke his own Pay-Per-per-view (PPV) records. Late unofficial reports reaching this column indicated that this latest Pacquiao fight generated 1.4 Million in Pay-per-view buys (the highest in his career) translating to an estimated $77 Million. All of Pacquiao’s fights shown of PPV earned a total of 6.25 Million buys (equivalent to roughly $321 Million). Said an HBO Official in Dallas , this makes Pacquiao to the elevated Super Elite status and in the annals of PPV history. Previous to this, Pacquiao’s best PPV record was in 2008 when he successfully defeated the then Golden Boy of Boxing, Oscar De La Hoya.

TO-BE-SEEN IN THE CITY

Margarito to undergo face surgery

Antonio Margarito’s face paid for his unwillingness to surrender the title to Pacquiao, who was so determined to get a knockout of Pacquiao last Saturday.

Until the swelling on the eye has reduced, Arum said further that the surgery can’t be performed, Arum mentioned during the Post–fight press conference. Reports have it though, that Margarito had facial surgery last Tuesday at Dallas Methodist Hospital to repair a fractured right eye socket, according topromoter Bob Arum.

Arum also said that the damage may not be permanent as other boxers who suffered the same injury were able to come back to the ring after awhile

PERSONAL NOTES

Belated Happy Birthday also to Drew Anthony Sacay of Piedmont , CA (Nov 11).

Belated Happy Birthday also to Ronald Villar of South San Francisco whose birthday this year fell on Pacquio vs Margarito fight day (Nov 13).

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“Boxing is not about killing. It’s about entertainment.”– by 8th Boxing Wonder of the World, Manny Pacquiao during the post-fight interview last Saturday night, on why he eased up on Antonio Margarito during the last and 12th round of their title fight in Arlington, TX. Pacquiao was hailed and held in higher esteem by sportswriters because of such class act, rarely displayed in the ring, in all of boxing history.
