She recently wowed audiences with her power singing at the First Ever Barrio Fiesta Filipinas in Sacramento, CA and the Town Fiesta in Monterey, CA (where the City Mayor even personally praised her and subsequently invited her to their next event).

TWIFF TO SCREEN “ALAGWA”

(FREMONT, CA) – “Alagwa” (subtitled ‘Breakaway’) from the Philippines is the film awarded by the ongoing Third World Indie Film Festival (TWIFF) as the Best Narrative Feature from among this year’s hundreds of entries.

South Korea’s Busan International Film Festival endearingly describes the movie as ‘a truly harrowing account of a 9-year-old boy who goes missing (with only a closed circuit TV brief recording as a clue left behind) and the anguish of his single Dad who embarks on a desperate search for him.” The father and son roles were essayed convincingly by Jericho Rosales and Bugoy Carino, respectively.

For this same movie, the recently concluded Newport Beach Film Festival awarded actor Rosales a citation (along with 2 other actors from other film entries) for "Outstanding Achievement" in acting.

There’s more – the Philippine’s most respective film critics’ organization named Rosales as Best Actor for the same movie during the 36^th Gaward Urian Awards held about two (2) months ago.

(SAN FRANCISCO, CA)–Miss Universe 2012 1st Runner-Up, Janine Tugonon attended Bay Area’s Party of the Year as she served as a special guest of the Annual Club Royale Coronation Ball held last Saturday, September 7, 2013 held at the Grand Ballroom of SFO Airport Marriott Hotel in Burlingame, CA. The dusky beauty queen’s presence was very apt to this year's dinner-dance ball theme which is "The Loveliest Night of the Year."

Miss Janine Tugonon was cooperative and generous enough to pose with all the guests who requested to take pictures with her to the delight of all the attendees there. The 5’8” Filipina beauty from Orion, Bataan was invited as a special guest of Royale King 2012 Noel Nuguit along with another stunner Filipina, Lizette Cruz. Tugonon was wearing a sparkly white ensemble designed by one of the most sought after Filipino designers of highly wearable and figure-flattering creations, Eric delos Santos.

Fashionable lady, Mrs Jett Viray Navarro announced that Club Royale family members were so grateful to the beauty titlist for being a trouper. All patrons and business partners were also there to show their continued support to this US west coast organization that serves as a model association for social grace , elegance, and philanthropy in socially focused project goals. Club Royale International President, Gil Navarro was there to oversee that the guests all enjoyed the whole program. Senator Leland Yee who has consistently attended the yearly ball awarded special certificates to highly selected recipients.

Everybody was talking about the vividly bright effusion of lime green and hot fuschia that dominated the whole ballroom. As soon as the attendees proceeded to their respective table, they were greeted by a giant martini glass with lovely small flowerettes and with uplighting at the base. Definitely an eyecatching and lovely sight with a tropical flair!

The program officially started with the promenade of last year Royale King Noel Nuguit and Queen Elizabeth Pasco as they relinquish their throne to the incoming and queen.This year's newly crowned Royale King and Queen are Jonathan Goco and Claire Viray. Jonathan is a ten-year member of Club Royale, who began his professional career in radio-television broadcasting as news reporter/variety show host in 1968. Later on, he moved to Kanlaon Broadcasting System in Manila covering exclusively the presidential beat with base operations at the Malacanang Palace. Jonathan migrated to the US in 1976, served in the United Nations in New York as documents library administrator. He eventually moved to San Francisco and settled there and got married with Elenita Goco, another royale queen who would help him operate and manage a ballroom dancing studio in :Pinole, California, where they taught lessons for 15 years.

Queen Maria Clara Mendoza Viray, who wore a stunning immaculate white ballgown, finished a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education. An artist by heart, she eventually took a big leap by switching her gear to her fulfillment of one of her dreams - to become a beauty consultant. This opened her to other opportunities and she did create a huge clientele in San Francisco, Peninsula and other partsof Northern California. She considers being crowned as this year's Royale Queen as a birthday gift and a culmination of her years of supporting the endeavors and welfare of the royal family members of Club Royale.

Live music was provided by the Elements of Time Band and also by one-man band musician Dante. Vic Barba and Jeanette Mandac emceed the entire program with the ever reliable Dave Rodriguez serving as the anchorperson.

Next year, Over-all chairwoman Jett Viray Navarro hinted that next will be staged differently as all the past kings and queens merge their royal presence for the special anniversary presentation of the Queen of Queens and King of Kings.

“Ekstra” leads Filipino entries at the 38^th Int’l Toronto Filmfest

“Star for All Seasons” Vilma Santos delivers tour de force performance

in Star Cinema-Quantum Films’ comedy-drama

REDWOOD CITY, CA, September 2, 2013 – After reaping major honors at the recently held Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival 2013 which included the Audience Choice Award, Jury Prize, Network for Promotion of Asian Cinema (Netpac), Best Screenplay for Zig Dulay, Antoinette Jadaone and director Jeffrey Jeturian, Best Supporting Actress for Ruby Ruiz and Best Actress for Philippine Star of All Seasons and current Batangas Province Governor Vilma Santos, ABS-CBN Star Cinema and Quantum Films’ acclaimed indie film, Ekstra (The Bit Player) has been invited to participate in the38^th Toronto International Film Fetsival (TIFF) which will be held onSeptember 5 to 15.

Ekstra will be part of the Contemporary World Cinema Section of the festival and will be screened in Scotiabank, Canada on September 8, 10 and 15. There are entries from 70 countries and a total of 366 total features, with 268 having their World, International or North American premieres at the festival, including Ekstra.

Film director Jeturian was a production assistant in the 1984 production of the late international Filipina film director Marilou Diaz Abaya’s “Alyas Baby Tsina” which starred Santos. From there, Jeturian rose to become known for his indie films, then later as the director of the phenomenally successful teleserye, “Be Careful With My Heart” shown on ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel (TFC) worldwide. Working with Santos anew for her first indie film is a dream come true for Jeturian.

This kind of experience gave Jeturian the right perspective to come up with a socio-realist drama-comedy that shows his compassionate understanding for the unheralded “bit players” of the industry. Through the main character, Loida Malabanan (played by Santos), a single mother who passionately works as a bit player for television and movies, Jeturian showed the harsh contrasting realities of the exploited and the privileged in the entertainment ecosystem.

Even with her hectic, full-time schedule as the governor of Batangas, one of the country’s top vote-rich provinces, Santos shows no rustiness in her craft. Proving she is still one of the country’s finest acting gems, she bravely essayed the deglamorized role of a hapless ekstra, treading adeptly the fine line between pathos and comedy that demonstrated her wide-ranging acting genius.

Vilma Santos, the enduring Grand Dame of the Philippine film industry, delivers a performance of grace, courage, and peerless comic timing as a single mother toiling as a lowly TV extra in the latest film from veteran director Jeffrey Jeturian.

Among the top talents who had cameos in the film are Cherie Gil, Cherry Pie Picache, Pilar Pilapil, Marian Rivera, Piolo Pascual, Tom Rodriguez, Eula Valdes, and Richard Yap.

Ekstra is part of this year’s offerings of Star Cinema which celebrates its 20^th year in the film industry.

Celebrities will start arriving for TIFF this week. Tom Rodriguez signs up with GMA Network

Sought-after leading man Tom Rodriguez is now officially part of the Kapuso Network after he signed an exclusive contract today at the GMA Network Center.

Tom, who became a household name after playing the role of Vincent in GMA’s widely-popular and trending primetime series My Husband’s Lover, is very happy and honored to be part of the Kapuso family. He is very thankful to GMA for giving him the opportunity to showcase his acting chops via My Husband’s Lover which catapulted him to stardom and elevated his status as one of the busiest and most in-demand actors in the industry.

Popoy, on the othe hand, is confident that GMA will continue to give Tom good projects now that he is officially part of the Kapuso family. “I am very happy and we are looking forward to a lot of good projects, a great relationship between GMA and Tom and myself. GMA Network launches the first parent-kid reality show on Philippine TV

“ANAK KO YAN”

“Behind the success of every child is a proud parent” – this is what GMA Network wants to showcase in its newest reality talent search Anak Ko Yan. Hosted by multitalented actress Jennylyn Mercado, Anak Ko Yan will be featuring kids from 7 – 17 years old who will show their talent in singing or dancing. Versatile performerRochelle Pangilinan will serve as the show’s dance coach while Asia’s Diva Dulce will serve as the voice coach.

What makes this different from other reality-talent searches is that their parents will also be highlighted. The show will feature the relationship between the child and the parent, how they will overcome all the struggles and challenges, how the parents interact with one another and how they prepare their kids in every performance.

Anak Ko Yan will air from Monday to Friday and the 13 parent-child participants will battle it out daily.
